Rush Question

Hello! I have a question about rush. I will be a freshman this fall; however, I am not going through rush. I plan to transfer to a larger, university (UofArkansas to be exact...)for the spring semester, and plan to go through my sophomore year. I am wondering a few things: Is it even okay to rush sophomore year? I know that Greek life is very, very competitive at the school that I will be going to, and it might be difficult to rush as a sophomore. I do have a high GPA (only college classes counted... I'll have 37 hours when I transfer), a 3.6, and plan to be active this fall on my campus where I will be for a short time. Also I've done a lot of volunteer work- you get the idea. Is all of this considered? Another question...if I go through rush, do I still need to send in a portfolio with a college transcript, resume, recommendation letters, and photo? Does this seem desperate lol? (just kidding) I really wanted to rush this fall, but I have a stipend at another college, my family thinks I should at least give it a try, blah blah. You get the idea. Annnyway, Just curious...if someone could answer my queries I'd appreciate it!

Since I don't go to UofA, I'm afraid I can't speak on behalf of that school. I do know though, from my own experiences and from reading all of the rush threads that are here on GC, that there is NO set profile for what a sorority looks at. There are so many factors that are taken into consideration to join a sisterhood, like you mentioned, academics, personality, philanthropy, etc. At some schools, yes, there might be groups that could cut you for not being a freshman...but for the MAJORITY...sisters will look at YOU as a whole...and all of your activities will certainly help you out! Again, as for the portfolio, that is also a school by school situation.

Your best bet to answer your concerns would be to talk to someone in, or with a working knowledge of, the greek system at UofA. I'm sure you could find a Greek Advisor's contact info on their webpage if nothing else!

Best of luck!

Rush

Do not let being a sophomore discourage you from going through rush. Some houses might keep a closer eye on you to see if your really dedicated to the cause but I do not believe that anyone would "cut" you just b/c your older. I wish the best of luck. Rush at the University of Arkansas is a truely amazing expierence.

Best of Lukc
