Rush question..

I did some research on here and have not seen a question like this asked, I am sorry if it has! My situation is a little more specific.

I started college in Fall of 06. I went to a school up north that doesn't have greek life, and is very major specific. During my year there I realized I had picked the wrong school and wanted to transfer to my other first choice back in the south. I had to take this current semester off, and in the process of transferring only 9 of my hours from my previous school were taken my and the two classes taken will only count as electives. I am basically starting over as freshman in the Spring.

I want to rush very badly in the Fall. I know a lot of big southern schools do not/can not take on many people who are sophmores/juniors. I will be 20 then and technically a 2nd semester freshman. Since I will be considered a freshman by the school at that point still will I still be put in the freshman quota? Also will my history (transferring, taking a semester off (medical reason)) hurt me during rush?

I will be there 4 more years when I rush, just I will be a little older, so I don't know if my age will hurt me too.

Thank you for your help! Sorry this got so long!

If you are considered a freshman by the university you transfer into, then you are considered a freshman for recruitment registration. That is what the sororities will officially see.

As far as taking a semester off, no one can really say for sure whether that will affect your chances. I don't think they'd even know you took time off unless you brought it up.

I agree with Violet -- if the university says you're a freshman, you register per your school standing. Sororities may show more interest in freshman because they see them as being able to spend more time in that chapter at that school, so if you are just starting your 4-year stint there, you should be just as "attractive" standing-wise as any freshman (they won't know or care about your actual age unless you bring it up). Plenty of freshman start college with x-number of credits already whether it's through AP credit, testing in, whatever. You should be fine!
