The cost of feeding a tiger

Ok this isn't really too much about news so I didn't want to put it in the news tread. A tiger was found in a Harlem apartment. It appeared to be well nourished. Here is my ?. My dad has worked at Clemson University since 1970. At one point the university considered buying a Bengal Tiger b/c that is the university's mascot. Well I remember him telling me the university couldn't afford it b/c of the tremendous cost involved with feeding the tiger. So my question is who in the world could some random person afford to feed a tiger plus pay rent on an apartment? From what I can tell the person didn't even visit the tiger, what's the point?! Confused. Thanks

Here is a pic of this type of tiger

Don't forget he also had a couple snakes and an aligator amongst other animals.

The only reason he got caught is cause the tiger attacked him, and the hospital didnt believe those were bite marks of a pitt bull.

Well, live and learn.

When I was in high school I worked at a small town grocery store. Out in the country a guy had a "big cat" farm. He would come in once a week and spend a couple of hundred on raw fryer chickens and apples. The tigers and lions he had would eat the raw chicken and snack on the apples.
As far as Clemson having a tiger, I am sure they would incur more cost than a guy having a tiger in an apartment. Clemson would have to pay extra liability insurance, secure cages, a vet, trainers, etc. I am guessing the guy with the tiger in the apratment was just buying some food, not all the extras.

It could be expensive you were feeding a lion filet mignon, but tigers, lions and other big cats have different digestive systems than humans. They can eat rotton meat. I know there used to be a big cat preserve in my area and they used to feed their animals roadkill. I see dead deer on the road all the time and they are free.

I heard the downstairs neighbor on the news complaining about the smell and urine coming from the above apartment.
