Freshman 15
this sux sooooo much! i went away to college last year and i am sad to say that the freshman 15 rumor is true(maybe they should change it to the freshman 20!!) i gained so much weight just because of all that cafeteria food. has anyone else been in this situation? i need some weight loss tips..i tried running and eating healthier this summer, but so far nothing has worked. i wish there was some magic answer...uggghhh this is soooo bad!!!

I can tell you what doesn't work....stress. Losing weight isn't my area of expertise since I've been trying to gain weight for years (yea, sorry I know this is not what you want to hear). Anyways, I suggest continue excercising (swimming would probably work the best from what I've been told), and don't eat after 10 p.m. Someone told me that's bad for people trying to lose weight.

I found it just the opposite! During my freshman year, I actually lost weight because I was so busy trying to find my way around the school (I was ALWAYS getting lost ), get my papers done on time, make friends, join clubs ,etc. I was so overwhelmed (it was nothing like high school)...I didn't find time to eat actual meals! There is no magical answer...actually you have the answer already. Keep eating right and running...I heard that's the best way to lose weight. You'll see results soon enough. Do not let this little weight gain get you down...Stay positive!

AxpAlum, I use to have the same problem (trying to gain weight)! I tried everything, even those silly "Weight-On" products. Well, what finally worked was pasta. Lots of it! I know everyone is different, but it actually worked for me! Now... the results are very much to my liking!

i've found that the freshman 15 seems to be more from the empty calories in beer than anything else. that and midnight pizza and chinese that delivers till 2am (god bless them!) work out, run somewhere, or do what i do and just work. running around at vicky's makes working out seem obselete. but then again, i haven't gotten the 15, and i'm a senior...

I think I stayed the same weight throughout my first year of college... (but I know another girl that gained her freshman 15 and the 15 I was supposed to gain).

my advice to you is- don't try to gain weight, as you get older IT WILL COME !! i used to be in your shoes, then it came now i have to work hard to maintain my weight.
i hate healthy eating:
try walking for 1 hour 3x weekly and don't eat after 7:00pm

Our school food was so bad that most students lost the "freshman 15"
Well, until they found the pizza places that delivered until 2 AM and someone to buy them beer...

Ugh..yeah it should be the Freshman 20 cuz I fell viction to that. Then I put myself on this pretty rigid diet and managed to lose that 20 lbs all over the summer. When I went back to school, some of my friends were like, "Daaang how did you do it?" One also commented that I was left as a bag of bones..haha.
And I liked the dorm food. It wasn't all that bad, except for when they had those special Theme Nights and try to make another ethnic cuisine. They tried to make Korean short spareribs once and it just tasted horrible.

Advice:
1. If you might be gaining weight, then you really have to curb the late-night eating (2am pizza, etc) even when you are drunk.
2. Alcohol is a lot of empty calories, but it can be accomodated if it's important to you to go out a lot. It just means you'll REALLY need to get in your workouts most days of the week, and you'll really have to watch what you eat and not have many splurges.
3. Eat a healthy and small breakfast daily, at least during the week. Have whole grain cereal and milk, and fruit, for instance. Avoid big white bagels, or french toast sticks, or whatever other junk is being offered.
4. Eat lots of salad if the school has a good salad bar, but watch the dressing.
5. WORK OUT. This may make the differene between gaining and maintaining. Most schools have a free gym for students. Walking around campus may not be enough for many people, especially if they need to burn off calories from frequent partying.

During my freshman year in college 12 years ago, I probably lost 15 pounds. I hardly ate because the food was terrible. Sometimes when they say the Freshman 15, don't always assume you are going to gain 15 pounds. Sometimes you may lose 15 pounds.

Nice
It was more like the freshman 30 for me. Took me awhile to get it off again.

I'll admit to some weight gain Senior year...stress and waaay too many nights drinking and eating wings. Le sigh. Now as I'm living and eating on my own I do whatever I can to be a healthy eater. Too much work for the kinds of drinking I did a year ago this time.
Fresh. year I think I gained a few also...the food was so-so, I ate waaay too much to try and stay full after meals.
