sororities
How much would it cost to be in a sorority? Like, $1,000 or less or more?

I think you're getting the wrong idea about all this. It's not like buying a car, you don't pay a lump sum. It's more than that. The costs of just getting in are disclosed by any chapter your interested in. All the fees, dues, or whatever else is different from chapter to chapter. You have to go to the sorority your interested in joining and ask them, they will gladly answer. Also, there are organizations that may not have dues and thus are free.

For national GLOs/BGLOs:
At the school where you are considering rushing, you can ask the Panhellenic or Greek Life office for an average cost to join. Most can provide a breakdown by semester and even sometimes by organization.
(At U.Texas, each rushee is given dues information for each chapter at the beginning of rush, so that she can make her decision based on that if necessary)
One thing to remember: dues are usually higher the semester you pledge, and then significantly decrease in the following years. Also, if the sorority you pledge has a chapter house, your dues will be lower while you are living in the house... although you will be paying room & board. Room & board in the house is almost always comparable to on-campus housing.

I am in a national sorority. It costs me approximately $1,400/yr. in dues, even though I don't live in the house. Every member is also required to purchase a 6-meal plan at the house, which adds on more than $1,000/yr.
The dues would be much lower for a sorority that did not have a chapter house. Mine were about $800/yr., and there was no meal plan, before we got our house.
In addition to the dues, there are out-of-pocket expenses like all the greek t-shirts you see sisters wearing (but you're not actually required to buy them if you don't want), and sometimes we'll all chip in for drinks (we are absolutely not allowed to buy alcohol with the actual dues). You will probably spend $100/yr. or less on out-of-pocket expenses.

this depends on many factors.
If the sorority has a house
If you live in that house
and basically the intital membership fee is different for each organization.
So cheack out different sororities that you are interested in.
Also sometimes there are payment plans so don't sweat the money
Beleive me none of us are rich, but we can do it.(well if any of you are, I have dues due in September....hint..hint)
