Question joining citywide

Hello,
I am currently a CUNY student and I was told that CUNY schools are affiliated with city wide fraternities and sororities. This might be wrong. I am unsure of myself. I am having a hard time keeping up with campus programs. I am beginning to wonder if it's easier to attend a campus-based sorority functions. I only know of one citywide chapter (Lambda). I made an email contact with one of the chapter members. I was wondering if I am the only one having this problem. For those who joined or want to join citywide chapters, do you feel it's harder to become a member of citywide chapters? Also I was told where I could find to reserve books based on Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Through the Years and In the Eye of the Beholder. Should I read these books or would that be taking an easier route. I am just so confused right now as to what steps to take so pleas bare with me. Well I would greatly appreciate replies so don't hold back. Let me have it.

Peace and love in the NYC,
Bellydancer
P.S. The Yankees rock!!!

As one SF to another,
I think you should start with the website. www.aka1908.com. There's a feature that will allow you to search the chapters by state and region. I was able to find some information about the citywide chapter in my city. Calm down and be very very patient. From what I have experienced, it is very different from the process that other SF's go through to get to know members of the organization. Try speaking with the student activities office. They may have more information than you think. Also they may clear up any misconception about whether your school is affiliated with city wide chapters. If you have a contact with a member of the organization, contact her. But do all possible research first about where and when activities may happen.
I hope I have helped. I'm going through something similar. Just keep on keepin on.

Thanks for the feedback. It was very helpful. It's nice to know that I am not alone in my quest. :-)
