Interesting eBay item

This must be from an old local sorority called Delta Gamma because I have never heard of anything mentioned here especially the part about changing our name to "The Owls??" One of the pictures also shows an Eta chapter in New York.

Women's Lit,The Owl,1911/2/4/5,NY,Rare, N/Res

Exceptionally rare, this is the annual publication of the sorority Delta Gamma, headquartered in New York, skewing to upstate a bit. The Owl was their annual publication, a compendium of poetry, short stories, chapter and state reports to the membership, and numerous chapter and convention group portraits. In one year they report there was not enough money available to recut a cover, I assume this was a very short run magazine, members only, maybe 100-150 issued. First two years, years 4 and 5 of the journal, are oversized, 12 by 9 1/2, 30 pps plus ads, last two are 55 page, approx 9 by 7 size. All pages are quality semi gloss stock. All have some cover soiling, bumps, chips etc. First two have dampstains rippling partial pages, last two insides are beautiful cond. Bonus is 5 pages of manuscript, a gilt embossed invitation and an old place card for a Miss Snider of Fort Plain NY, notes being her greetings and the minutes of the 1914 initiation dinner. The literature is of very good calibre, as this looks like a posh group. Moreover, the content about the struggles of this woman's sorority is fascinating. The chapters were getting abolished at some schools, as much for the misdeeds of some fraternities, indeed, in 1915 there is discussion that the Pan Hellinic League would banish anyone who was in an underschool secret sorority from membership in a university sorority....so Delta Gamma changed their name to the Owls, went national, and then were getting sued by a group of men, the Order of the Owls....wonder how that was resolved? Whatever, if you have interests in the beginnings of the sororities in America, doubt if you will ever see these issues for sale again, certainly don't want to break them up.
