Attending multiple Interest Meetings

What do you feel about having your prospects attend multiple interest meetings? I think it's a good idea, but many people think that when someone is at an interest meeting they are interested in their org. Hollar at me about what you think about this.

I don't think its problematic at all. Its a good way for interested women/men to learn about other organizations and what makes us unique. If anything it would help confirm their decision in a particular organization.

Those who apsire to be a part of a fraternity or sorority should be able to attend multiple interest meetings. However, it has been somewhat taboo at my univeristy . Many students have never been exposed to greek life until they attend college. Those who have had some exposure (friends, family, community) can sometimes be misguided and base their choice of choosing an organization solely on sterotypes and hearsay. If one is able to attend multiple interest meetings it will only help them make the best decision in choosing the right organization for them. Why shouldn't one be given the opportuninty to learn about another organzation without scrutiny? Afterall, joining a greek organzation is a lifelong commitment.

Okay, I will be the odd one out,.

1) There is so much introduction information out there about the greek orgs.

2) If a person is truly interested in a greek org, he/she would attend their campus activities i.e. blood drives, seminars on time managment, etc. (not parties).

3)Even if he/she is not sure about which one to be apart of, they would see the sisterhood and brotherhood better if they attend the greek orgs functions not just the interest meeting.

4) Then they should attend the interest meeting

Just my thought.

At the university that I have attended, we use to have an open house that included all of the organizations. This cut down on people going to multiple interest meetings.

It was just a general form that questions were presented. After the open house, those that were interested went to the interest meeting.

There is nothing wrong with going to another fraternity's interest meeting, you don't make a commitment until you turn in your application for membership

While, I knew which sorority I was interested in, I think attending multiple interest meetings would benefit those not familiar with BGLO's. My school held one meeting in which all of the sororities were in attendance. They each had time to speak about there sorority and the rules for intake were explained. It was nice to have a little history lesson about each organization.

At UMCP, it seems like going to multiple interest meetings is looked down upon, at least by the BGLOs, but I have never understood or agreed with that. I am a member of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. (LGLO if you can't tell by the name) and we ALWAYS encourage people to do their research, go to other meetings, visit other websites, etc. I guess its a little different for the LGLOs because we aren't nearly as well known as the BGLOs, so a lot of times people don't know what is out there. But, in my opinion, I think it should be acceptable across the board to visit informationals and programs of any/all orgs before you make your decision. We all know that pledging is a HUGE commitment, and personally I would rather someone go to interest meetings for every BGLO and LGLO on campus, then to go to only one, pledge, and then become unhappy and, in turn, inactive, because they feel later on that they made the wrong decision. Now, of course, in the application stage, you better have a solid decision at that point!! lol, but I don't mind other interest meeting visits early on.

BUT I must say, I can't STAND to see an interest who goes to EVERY meeting, EVERY program, EVERY event for XYZ sorority, and follows them around like a puppy dog, but then turn around and all of a sudden one day become an interest for ABC sorority and starts talking trash about XYZ sorority (probably cause they got denied)!!! I've seen it happen, and it REALLY irks my nerves.
