Post Million Family March

Five years after the Million Man March, the Million Family March meets in Washington, DC today. It seems as though after the first rally, there was such a tremendous momentum within the black community. Those who attended came back home rejuvenated with a stronger sense of purpose and direction. Even those who did not attend were full of excitement and anticipation. Everyone was talking about it. Then, months later it seemed as though the whole agenda was abandoned.

I haven't heard as much about the Million Family March as I did the Million Man March leading up to the event. Most likely this was due to the fact that their was a lot of opposition from various people and organizations five years ago. The NAACP and the Urban League are supporting the rally this time. What does everyone think will happen this time around?

My Sister,

I am sorry to say I did not consider attending the event. I know I should have made my family "get on the bus" but I failed this go around.

This should have been a project for my frat now that I think about it.

I heard about the march via BET last week. I wanted to go but, a week is such short notice. I did, in fact, watch coverage of the March on BET this afternoon. I found the speech very inspiring. I regret not being in attendance.

I believe the march was done in good faith and for a good cause, but I think if you overdue something one too many times, it becomes boring. There were too many marches with not as much focus on the black family and they all used MILLION XXX MARCH, and for some that is the down fall and where the march lost its momentum. Like I said I believe in the cause. I, myself was not able to attend because publicity was scarce, and when I heard about it ...about two weeks prior I already had plans and that includes work ....something as important as this needs major broadcasting ... news reports show it was well attended, which is good and hopefully in 5 years I can be at the next gathering.

BUT I would like to comment that in the days of Martin Luther king, when a march was announced everyone got the word, think back they did not have modern computers, or phones and they damn sure did not have modern cell phones and e-mail ...what is wrong with this generation, we can't even communicate with all of the wonderful gadgets we have! And I heard this from Al Sharpton at the AKA public policy conference, he and other leaders made great points and a lasting impression on me. Also remember when marches were across bridges, towns and states and people, all people, were active, not sitting on grass like we are at a concert. Now don't get me wrong the so called million family march was for a great cause but we have really got to do MORE.

LASTLY, can anyone tell me who the organizers of the march endorsed for president.... I hope they made the right choice, and if the NAACP was a supporter then I am sure they made the right choice.

Hello to all the Lovely Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha!

I am not a member but I wanted to reply to this.

I pray and hope that all Black families were able to see the march. This march was very important for all to hear and see. The first 6 years of my life I had both my mother and my father. As soon as my parents broke up my relationship with my father went down hill. I went through a lot in my life and I do believe that if he was around more I wouldnt have gone through those things. In result to my father not being around I started to search for love in all the wrong places. I was trying to replace the love I missed from him. If I had my choice no one would have to go through many days and nights of crying for DADDY when he is not going to come. I have seen many men do this. I have also seen parents abandon, neglect, abuse and JUST NOT CARE for their children. AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY SOME CHILDREN ACT NEGATIVILY? If families were to stick together and raise their children this world would be such a better place. THEY ARE OUR NEXT GENERATION! Even if you and your mate are not together anymore show that you will Keep a family structure around that child. This is why I am interested in AKA. The program for black families (to me) is great! We have to let people know how important this is. If you want a better life you will agree with me!
