Question Diet and Exercise

Hello to all. I hope your Friday is starting off well. I have seen the huge response to the "skin care" topic so I was curious if anyone had any dieting and exercise tips for someone wanting to loose about 30 pounds FAST!!! Also, has anyone tried "Metabolife", if so, how well does it work. I am attending my ex-boyfriends wedding and of course I have to be the bomb . So any advice would be appreciated.

You may want to try Mayo Clinic Diet also known as the All Protein Diet. You can drop 10lbs in 10 days, then after the 10th day you will lose a 1/2lb. every two days. You can look up the whole diet on the internet. Of course, you have to be careful going on ANY diet because, dieting is not good for you especially black women because we sometime gain more all the weight back plus a few more pounds than before we started. Good luck and I hope you look great

One of my cousins tried Metabolife, but she said it didn't work that well for her. Of course, everyone's response to it is different so it may work for you. Good luck!

Sorors and SF,
Please be careful when trying fad diets or pills! The best way to lose weight is the old fashion way...exercise and good nutrition. However, I know a Soror that lost a significant amount of weight on the Mayo Clinic Diet and she looks great...once she reached her desired weight she got off the diet and maintains her weight by proper nutrition.

Well I plan to take Metabolife starting this Monday and I will let you all know how well it works.

I will be at my ideal weight once I loose 40lbs. That is a true accomplishment, most would not be able to say that.

I can keep the weight off its just losing it that is hard.

Hi, thought the following advice might be of some help to you on your weight-loss journey.

Try to stay away from the carbs, usually on a carbohydrate-restricted diet you will lose fat tissue faster.

I am currently trying the "Atkins" way of eating (I hate the word diet), and it has proven to be VERY beneficial to me. What I found out from trying to change my "carbo-holic" eating habits was that Diets high in sugar and REFINED carbohydrates like bread, pasta, cereal, and other mainly "low-fat" processed foods increase our body's production of insulin (sugar). When insulin is at high levels in our bodies, the foods we eat can get converted into body fat, in the form of triglycerides (to top it off, high triglyceride levels in the body are one of the greatest risk factors for heart disease). I was diagnosed as having border-line high cholestorol . After trying Atkins, my triglyceride levels have dropped and I lost 19lbs in 1 month (some people may think that this is a rather high amount, but I have quite a bit of weight to lose). Hope this helps you out!! Good luck to you, Email me if you'd like for more info.

Wow, Abundantly Blessed!! You ARE blessed to have lost 19lbs in only ONE month. I TOO am on the low carb diet, but I only lost 16 pounds in about six months. I found out later that it was because I STOPPED drinking 64oz of water, and I started back eating breads, pizza, chips, you name it. AND I wasn't even exercising. I just lost FIVE pounds this past week when I got back on the diet full force. I just hope I can keep it up. But congratulations to you in the meantime. ;-)

ooops. Sorry Blessed. I was trying to create a wink icon, but I screwed up and put a little nose on in the face. So, I'll try it again. This is for you:

Question

I am currently taking Metabolife. The pills make you a little drowsy. Maybe I am not eating enough with them but, they have have some strong side effects. Has anyone else experienced this?

Pinkice9,

I saw a special last year on 20/20 about Metabolife . Some individuals had serious reactions to ephedra, an herbal ingrediant in this product. It is the same as Mai Huang (sp?) used in diet teas. I think it is from China but I am not sure. Anyway, Mai Huang/ephedra has never been tested by the US.

Some people experienced migrains, nausea, and other minor side-effects while taking Metabolife. Others experienced more severe side-effects. One woman began taken Metabolife to lose her post pregnancy weight gain. After taking Metabolife, she had a stroke and was paralyzed on one side of her body. She had to re-learn how to walk, talk, etc. She couldn't even hold her baby.

The Metabolife company felt that there wasn't enough evidence to blame ephedra. However, I have noticed that they sell the product with and without this drug.

I am not trying to scare you. Just make sure you are really careful when taking this product. One of my co-workers used this product and had no problems at all. You may want to switch to the Metabolife w/o ephedra if you think this is what is causing those side-effects.

I too, am trying to lose weight. LikeASista wised me up on the Atkins diet(Bless You!) and it seemed to have worked pretty well. Since the beginning of May I have lost 48 pounds but the majority of it was water because I had too much fluid in me and I ended up in the hospital because of it. You also have to exercise and I found walking to be the best. I know a guy who was on a diet he says that many of the celebrities take and it contains ephedra. He had to stop taking it because it caused his stomach to bleed. So always ask a doctor or dietician first before trying anything.
