Unhappy Sigma Kappa to EWU

Hi, sorry to crash your board, but I just wanted to say something. There's been talk of expansion on our campus and Sigma Kappa showed a lot of interest, but Panhellenic can't bring them on due to our bylaws stating that all chapters must be at total for 2 years straight. Something that is not going to happen very soon. So, instead 2 of your members are starting a local, I guess interest group. They had a table out in the PUB (our main building) and I asked them questions because their cost was so inexpensive. They said that they would go up once people joined, but they weren't telling everyone that. I was polite in asking questions because I'm on Panhellenic and I just wanted to know so that I could give people the right information about them. Well, I got really rude remarks and especially after I told them I was in another org. Just wanted to let you know that it's not giving off the best vibe. I just wanted to say something and I have nothing against y'all, one of my good friends is a Sigma Kappa in Oregon.

Question I'm confused.

Are they actual SK sisters or unaffiliated women interested in bringing SK to the campus. You stated they're starting a local, that leads me to think they're students at EWU. Are they transfer students or were they members of the Epsilon Rho chapter? I have no clue when that chapter closed so I don't know if it's reasonable for them to have been initiated at that chapter.

Either way I think the best approach is to speek to your Greek advisor about your concerns. She/he can then think of a way to diplomatically approach the women. (Not to say that you weren't being diplomatic, just that the advisor would be a neutral party.)

I understand that you got rude remarks, but these girls may just be on the defensive. Their starting something new and aren't sure how the other sororities are going to accept it so they may have taken your questions the wrong way (not saying that you were rude or anything, it's not something you did) we've had some people try to start up a local here and they got a lot of crap from the existing sororities.

Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington. The Epsilon Rho chapter has been dormant at least ten years if not more.
