I was head of both committees at one point during my undergraduate years. I would definately speak with the former committee heads of the positions in your chapter and see what they did. I would also look back at the committee binders to see what worked and what did not. Also, you might want to do a search through the other threads to get some ideas.

Anyway, to answer your question...

Social: Number one rule-No chapter funds will be used to pay for alcoholic beverages. Most of the guys pay for them anyway, but we cannot do so. You will most definately get into trouble and I am sure you don't want that. Secondly, make sure you appoint (or have people volunteer) for sober sisters (or designated drivers). I think the rule is something like 1 sober sister for every 6 sisters in attendance. When I was committee head, I had every sister sign a piece of paper stating that under no circumstance could they as a sober sister, drink one drop of alcohol. If they were caught drinking, they would most definately be placed on Step I and would have to deal with J-Board. Another thing to remember, you want your sisters to have fun at these socials. Themes usually work and you can even make them fun for the sober sisters.

Fundraising: Make it fun!!! Fun fundraisers work much better than the boring old high school ones. Also, see if you can have incentives. For instance, we sold raffle tickets for a bushel of crabs, soda, and a dozen ears of corn. The tickets cost $2 apiece. For every 20 tickets sold, the sister selling them received $5 off her formal ticket. Many sisters went to formal for free and the chapter still made $1,000. (There's a thread somewhere on this if you wanna search within our site). When you are planning a fundraiser, give yourself plenty of time for it to last. You generally make a little more money if the fundraiser lasts atleast 2 weeks. That being said, don't carry it on for more than 1 month because sisters will lose interest. Here are some quick and easy ideas: lollipops sales, 50/50 raffle tickets, bake sales on campus, and car washes. And you know there are more.

Good luck. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

Fundraising ideas

I am currently the fundraising chair and last year we had a Longaberger Basket Bingo (we made over $3000) . We purchased about 20 baskets from a consultant, and had each sister find someone to sponsor the basket. Next each sister had to have someone sponsor the contents inside the basket as well.

As far as where, what, how, ect, we had our bingo at our school gym. We had the school sponsor our food for consessions. We sold about 300 tickets @ $10.00/piece. So with the tickets, food, and extra games, ect, we made out pretty well. We also found companies to give door prizes (about 50 total). This event was such a good idea, we are doing it again this year.

In addition, I found some good ideas on this web page:

www.abcfundraising.com.

Good luck.
