Arrowmen... sparked from breathesgelatin's post

I know that they are no longer allowed... and I understand why they arent as well too...

but it made me think when I saw your post, breathesgelatin, that you hadnt heard of them...

I was just wondering if a lot of sororities had this... it sounds as if it was done differently everywhere.. we never iniated them.. just chose one at each formals and they got a shirt and some other things or something... I think that we actually got rid of the practice bc girls got upset when it wasnt there boyfriend chosen.. (thats what i heard at least since it was stopped just a little while before i became a member)

plus do all nationals prohibit these groups now.. bc I know that a bunch of sororities still have "______" men without naming names here...

I think because my chapter is relatively new (chartered 1992) we never had time to develop traditions like this... But I do find it interesting that some chapters did it.. I can understand why it creates problems, especially if chapters were initiating men!!

The reason the Pi Phi doesn't allow "Arrowmen" is that to have even the hint of an insinuation that a man was a member, even an honorary member would jeopardize our status as a single sex private organization. All NPC organizations operate under the same rules as far as men being "honor" members. So far, the courts leave us alone but if men are put on composites (in other than houseparent role), who knows what some judge would do. I like hanging out with the guys but I like my "society of educated women" to remain a women's organization.
