UBC Recruitment

Hey everyone. Well, after a bit of a rocky start (see Greek Life Forum..oops!), I'm back! I've posted here before but this is the first time from ... the otherside

Anyway, here's an update about me first.

I had an absolutly amazing first year at UBC and with my sorority, I love it and them and everything! I was very happy with my bid, met some incrediable women, and got the best big sister ever! Everything was so great, and I felt so confident in myself (very new feeling) that I ran for a position in Panhellenic, and got it! I'm now working on recruitment, and it's awesome, if not a little daunting.

So, now about UBC Recruitment. For the first year we're doing online registration, and we're getting a response, which is totally exciting! We've set high goals for ourselves, to continue increasing our registration number and retention rate (we're aiming for 90%, cross your fingers!). Recruitment starts on Monday September 15 and Tuesday the 16th with Orientations, and then first tours is that Wednesday, with the second batch going through on Saturday.

We have an amazing Council and recruitment Chairs for the sororities, and well as great Rho Chi's, so I'm counting on it being completely successful. And like my fellow UBC-ers, I'm soooo glad Theta accepted our offer! too bad not for this year, it would have been amazing to help them start up, but that just means I'll have to get involved with Panhell next year too!

So....I'll keep you all updated with our progress. And every word of encouragement and advice would help! Glad to be back!

And if you know any ladies coming to UBC, or if anyone is rushing (ohhh, we don't use that word, oh well) here, speak up!

Well, I'm at work, and bored, and no new posts on the Rush threads I've been watching, so I thought I'd give an update from the otherside.

We're now calling and emailing the girls who have expressed interest in recruitment. We're trying really hard to get lots of ladies to register early by the August 29th deadline, in order to be eligible for a scholarship from Panhell. We've gotten quite a result considering it's our first time with this new system.

I have to confess I already have a rush crush, but I'm not sure she'll even come. I met her at an orientation, and she's sooo cute and sweet, and seemed interest, so I hope she comes.

I'm really looking forward to getting to see these girls outside of the rooms, in a more natural enviroment, where they'll be relaxing and making decisions. I just know me and other dissaffiliates will be chatting and trying to pair them up with the houses they'll end up at, and watching with anticipation the results. It will be like having 250 rush threads all at once, with faces to help keep track! I'm so excited!!!!!

Anyway, now we're calling, and doing the paperwork stuff of the girls registered. Recruitment meeting is on Thursday, where we work out more of the logistics. Can't wait! Plus, the Thetas will be here for Recruitment, which was a change in plans, but an awesome one! September is looking busy and so fun and stressful, and everything all at once.

Not to mention moving in, paying tuition (ouch, stupid UBC, raising tuition ) and buying books, and seeing people again, and parties, and..... wow, I'm tired just thinking about it.

Okay, super long post, but I'm going to go check the rush threads, again!

hey UBCsororitygirl-
it sounds like things are going well in BC.
btw, what chapter are you from?
oh and how much is the scholarship for?? that would be a great idea for other panhellenics such as in t.o. where they have trouble getting girls to go through rush.
good luck!

Wish I could say, but I can't! I'm dissaffiliated

But, the chapters on campus are:

Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Phi
Delta Gamma
Delta Phi Epsilon
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta (brand spankin' new!)
Kappa Kappa Gamma

They're all between 20-50 (roughly), except Theta, which will surelly become very strong soon.

The scholarships (I believe unless we've changed them) are each worth $500, and we give them out to two New Members each year who have gone through formal recruitment.

Can't wait to hear how recruitment goes @ UBC! And good luck to Theta! (although I'm sad that AOII isn't recolonizing!) Enjoy being a rho chi and you'll be reaffiliated soon again! Check your PM box!
