Do you have a song? Like a traditional, trademark song you sing frequently? We have the SAI Chorale, and a tradition for us is to, at the sister's wedding reception, circle around the bride and sing the Chorale to her.

Hi!

At weddings we go to, we usually sing a song as well. We usually sing "Sisters" It has one line in it about Phi Mu, but you might be able to tweak the lyrics to fit your sorority, so you may be able to sing it at the reception. We grabbed the DJ and asked him to have the bride come out to the dance floor. And we all circled around and sang it together. We were all crying, and the other guests thought it was really sweet.

Here are the lyrics, in case you don't know them!

Sisters are the chains that allow me to be free
Sisters are the mirrors that let me see me
You are half of my heart, you are worth far more than gold
You are kind, they are true
You're my sisters in Phi Mu.

Though the miles may come between us,
Though our paths may drift apart
We've got our bond between us
That keeps us sisters at heart.

Sisters are the friends who are with me when I'm sad
Sisters are the laughter that make me feel so glad
You are half of my heart, you are worth far more than gold
You are kind, you are true
You're my sisters in Phi Mu

Or, if you all had small corsages made with your sorority's flower, that you could wear to the reception it would set you a lil apart and show that you're all there supporting her.

I don't know what else to do really as a sorority for her. We threw our sister a surprise shower, so that it was just the sisters. That was a lot of fun.

Hope this helps!

I've also heard of this: if you have a bridesmaid(s) that is a sister, she could carry one of your sorority's flowers instead of what the others are carrying.

We have a candle light at the reception with the bride and groom in the circle together and the candle passes from sister to sister until it get to the husband and he blows it out. One sister also decorates the candle in forget me nots and they sang a very special song we have.

I am giving all my sisters at my wedding a special coursage of our flowerst o wear. Only a few can be bridesmaids, but I love htem all and want them to feel special. They are also invited to see me before the ceremony and walk down prior to the family members after everyone is seated

That is all just soooo sweet! What a touching way to involve sisters if they cannot all be in the bridal party.

Actually, that's an official Phi Mu song, so I wouldn't recommend using that. (sorry... it's not the same as a "call" ). But, RoseNWhite, I know you had good intentions!

Maybe if you guys have a special open ritual song you could sing that?

One thing I've seen at my cousins' weddings in NY is the take the large part of the bride's veil (or maybe have a huge part made) and as the bride and groom are dancing, the bridal party and family are in a circle around them. They are each holding an end of the veil so that it is like an umbrella over the couple. As the song goes on, the veil is slowly lowered and eventually completed draped over the couple, and the outer circle holds hands while still circling them. This dance actually has something to do with virginity, but I guess it may be a really sweet way to do something for the couple, like enveloping them with your love.

I am also going to have my sisters at the wedding wear special corsages, I'm also going to have the bridesmaids who are sisters wear their badge and I'll either wear mine on the inside of my dress or on my bouquet. One thing my chapter does is dance to our chapter song, "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor. We do this at our formals also. Only sisters are on the dance floor and we get in a big circle and dance. It's really funny because all the long term boyfriends hate the song and they know that it's just a sister song.

those are some great traditions!!! thank you so much for sharing them with me. i especially like the one where the sisters get to wear corsages of the sorority flower...that is an excellent tradition and idea we could always sing our chapter song or something at the wedding. i will look into some stuff. thanks

Oh my bad! PM Mama thanks for correcting me! There are so many "generic" songs that so many sororities use that I just thought Sisters was one ofthem.

Nevermind, don't sing "Sisters" at your wedding ;-)

Sueali~ Yes, our chapter has the same thing to "Dancing Queen" by Abba...And it comes on at formals and all the dates roll their eyes and head for the bar, because they know this one is JUST for the girls!!!

I just went to my little sister's wedding last weekend -- how appropriate!

My alma mater is like it's own little local sorority, so that is where I picked up little sisters.

All of the bridesmaids except one (her sister) went to our college, so we're all sisters. For our bouquets, the bride chose our school flower (red rose), our family's flower (orange rose) and the flowers of our two closest families (white rose). It's hard to explain, but they looked gorgeous, especially for a late summer wedding.

We always seranade the bride and groom at the reception, also. We usually sing songs that the bride requests, but we almost always sing "We Won't Live In A Castle."

We won't live in a castle,
But love will light every room.
Love will shine in your eyes and mine,
As bright as the moon above.

Laugh with me in the sunshine.
Cry with me in the rain.
Want me, dear, and you'll have me near,
You've only to say my name.

Laugh with me in the sunshine.
Cry with me in the rain.
Want me, dear, and you'll have me near,
You've only to say my name.

The groomsmen hated this song, but the ladies all loved it!
