Question about rush/quota/and total...
Hey there, this may be a little bit confusing, but I'm sorry in advance. This will be my first year going through recruitment on the other side and I'm extremely excited . Our spirit week *work week , we call it spirit week in KD* isn't until sept. 15th and recruitment isn't until the first week of October, but our rush chair emailed us and gave us some information yesterday. We are a pretty small greek school, about 200 pnm's go through and we have 6 sororities. Every year quota is around 25 and total is about 75 or 80. We were the only chapter on campus that was at total at the end of the year and we only had 6 seniors graduate. Because of this our rush chair said we only can take 6 girls through formal. Is it true that we are not allowed to rush to quota because we are so close to total? I can't see how this is right because at some of the bigger schools they have quota around 60 and I can't possibly see how they would be 60 members from total before going through recruitment. Sorry if this is really confusing, and it's probably a dumb question, but any clarification would help, thanks!!

i know that i am not a green book expert, but that is ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!! you are always allowed to take quota...regardless of how high it is set and whether you are close to total or not. you would not be eligible to do cob after you take quota bc you are already at total, sooooo... quick tell your rush chair. also, penguintrax has a great thread stickied to the top of this forum, so that should help too! best of luck!!

That is sooo not true. If it were true the sororities on the campus that I advise would have only been able to take 6 or 7 new members last year and not the 38 that was quota, and most of the houses are well over total at the campus I advise. You cannot be prevented from taking quota. If it puts you over campus total the only think it will prevent you from doing is COB events in the spring, and who would not be thrilled to not have to rush in the spring?

Ditto to what everyone else has says.
If your going to be above total by taking quota it is acceptable, however, you may not COB again until you are under total.

Hey Kaydee_Cutie!
That information is wrong! I was Panhellenic Vp of Rush back in my college days and unless the rules have changed drastically in the last 5 years, every chapter is entitled to take quota at formak rush, even if this will put the chapter over campus total. What you CANNOT do, however, is take additional girls during informal rush or via COB procedures. Hope that helps and good luck with rush!!!

Ditto to the above...
and furthermore, if you don't meet quota, you can still COB up to quota even if you're over total. So if total is 80, you have 74 sisters now, quota is 25, and you only get 20 during formal recruitment (putting you at 94 which is over total) - you can still COB for five more women.
Even if you're over total going into formal rush, you can never be prevented from participating fully and taking quota.
