Guilty or Not...Part 2
Last night, in the Queens section of New York, 5 teens ranging in age from 14-17, brutally attacked and killed a man...because they were in the mood for some Chinese food.
The teens ordered $60 worth of chicken and broccoli, egg foo yung, etc. and gave the restaurant the address of an abandoned house...when the unsuspecting delivery man (immigrant and father of two small children) arrived at the house the teens threw a blanket over his head and beat him with their fists and hit him in the head repeatedly with a brick. As the man lay there in a pool of blood, the teens grabbed the bags of food and fled to another house where they enjoyed their meal.
...The only girl involved in the attack is being described as a good, but naieve girl who was enlisted in the plan by her boyfriend and his friends. Although she didn't physically harm the delivery man, she was the one to call in the order on her cell phone...and she waited on the porch of the abandoned house as he walked up knowing full well that the other teens were hiding in the bushes ready to attack.
Question: Should she be charged with second degree murder (which she already has) and facing 25 years to life as the other teens, who actually murdered him?
The girl has received a certificate from president Clinton for Outstanding Educational improvement.
Today was supposed to be her first day in college, instead she's behind bars. What is going so terribly wrong with our young people?

Since she knew about the planned attack, placed the call and acted as the lookout, she most certainly should face the harsh penalties associated with her actions.
That she was a promising student on her way to college is tragic, but at some point people have to understand that they must stand in account for what they do. Not everyone does so in this plane, but they certainly will in the next.

I agree the girl should get punished right along with the boys who actually beat the man. She was part of the plan and she participated. It is sad she won't get to go to college, have a family etc...but she choose her fate. The victim's children won't get to see their daddy anymore and they didn't get a choice.

I was in my car listening to the morning news when I heard this the other day and I screamed out 'WHY'!! It is such a sad state we are in when we have to kill someone for 60 dollars worth of food. I was so upset, but then I sit and think how can I help? As a black female from the 'not so great part of town' I have learned to give back what I can to my community to help bring it up, but I don't think it is enough! Through AKA, I volunteer and help our young ON-TRACK children, and I know that is where we need to start, but what about the 14 year olds that have gone wrong already.... I am almost afraid of them, so how do I help? Even my man (okay X man for the time being) just became a part of NYPD and he works around the schools he has been hearing war stories about the students in his area. I am more afraid of the young students then the drug dealers on the corner. What do I do ... I am just very upset about the situation, and this is not the first time it has happened to a Chinese delivery man....it happened before in my own neighborhood.
Okay so there is no moral to my story, at least not yet..... I am just a concerned soul and don't know what I can do to help out this world we live in.
