Help!-I CHOPPED IT OFF!

I ReaLLY HATE MY HAIR! I went to the hair salon and told her to cut it to my shoulders and when I got home it was not touching my shoulders...closer to the middle of my neck...I love my hair...it's always been long....any suggestions for what to do why I am waiting for it to grow back? I was thinking braids but I am not sure if I want to go there...

Hey Kitty, It has been a while since I had relaxed hair and I am thinking that you have a relaxer, but braids do not let your hair grow, they actually will take it out, especially if you have a fresh touch up. If you like up-do's, it is un-beweaveable what can be done, just get it sewn in, not glued. Hope this helps. Traci

Pretty, enjoy your shorter hair! I know you hate it now because it's not what you wanted, but it will grow back sooooo fast (especially if your hair is in good condition). If there's a style you've always wanted to try but your hair was too long, now's the chance to try out a modified version of it.

During the summer, I cut my hair to just past my shoulders (you know my original length) in a version of Vanessa Williams' long graduated layers from years back (or weaves ago as the case may be). I really liked it. Wouldn't you know that the next time I went into the shop five weeks later the style had grown out so much that it wasn't even much there anymore?! I just got my hair done again this morning, and now it's almost back to it's old length (and same straightness, unfortuately). Your hair WILL grow back, stronger and healthier than ever, so be bold and see if you can freak your new cut for the few weeks it'll stay that short--you'll get GREAT reaction from folks if you tailor your new style to suit something you'd actually like.

Thanks Shelacious for the advice...and yes I remember how long your tresses are!

mrstraci...I've done it in the past and it never took my hair out, actually allowed it to grow quite significantly. I think that the hair falling out thing with braids is a very individual thing depending on the condition and sensitivity of your scalp/hair...but thank you for the advice nonetheless!

Soror you know you are a Diva no matter what length your hair is in!

Soror, all I have to say is: WORK IT!!!

I have had my hair in braids for about one year now, and my hair has grown a bit.

You darling....Love Your Hair, Be kind to your hair and your hair will grow back sooner than you think!

Hello ladies,

Thought that I would bring this thread up again.

I am at that in between stage with my hair. I am letting it grow out from the TWA that I had last summer. I am currently in the cornrow stage with extentions, getting bored with that style.
My hair is in it's natural state and about seven inches in length.
Any suggestions,

Sorry for any typos, it's late in my neck of the woods

First and foremost, Keep your hair well conditioned and trimmed to keep it healthy. When I was growing out my hair from short to the medium legnth it is now, I just styled it until it grew out. Right now, I have a sewn in weave to give my hair a rest for the summer and from all the mess. You can try a weave or you can go for a different style in braids. Keeping up with your hair is the most imporant and you must give it a lot of attention. I have seen people with weaves or braids and their hair falls out from not taking care of it. Since your hair is natural(or even if it is permed) you should use natural oils to condition the scalp and hair.

I hope this helps.

A family member of mine has started wearing wigs -- and believe it or not, there are some really beautiful ones out there and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get something that goes really well with the direction you are trying to go. Wearing a wig lets your hair get a rest and allows you to try out different looks without actually having to keep them. I would suggest that those who are looking for a change try some of the wigs that are out there and see where that leads you . . . when I start my new job, I am going to get several so that I can do different things with my hair without putting it through the ringer.

Good luck.
