misky, i am so sorry that your recruitment ended up the way it did. you sound like someone who has taken this difficult situation and has turned it into a learning and personal growth experience.
while you have missed the collegiate sorority experience, there are some npc sororities that initiate women out of college, or there are numerous volunteer opportunities in ones community, from jr. league to tutoring children and everything in between.

If only you were on GC a few years ago, you could have joined Gamma Chi.

How bad for you to be subjected to being in the same category as the "fat, hideous ones."

You say you want potential rushees to be aware of what rush is like at a competitive Southern school. Yes, they may not be invited back to the majority of groups. They may have a harder time because of not knowing what rush is like and how to prepare. But, if they drop their notions of how rush "should" go they might actually find a house that is a great fit.

You said it yourself: you were ALMOST universally cut. Get a grip. There are girls who ARE universally cut. Don't sit here and tell everyone what a HORRIBLE experience you had. You made a choice to end your rush experience because you didn't have every sorority knocking on your door with invitations. You had TWO houses asking you to come back. But, you didn't want to be in the same category as the fat, hideous ones.

Sorry. My give-a-damn's busted.

I'm a little surprised it was deleted. It had parody thread written all over it.

Sorry! Who knew she would delete it? At the very least I thought it might provide for some entertaining dialogue. I should have quoted it.

Don't worry! Maybe one day she'll post in the AI forum, and then we'll have 900 people blowing sunshine up her ass and telling her that yes, ALL OF OUR ORGANIZATIONS ARE JUST DYING TO GET PEOPLE WHO WERE CUT FROM RUSH 10 YEARS AGO AND ARE STILL BITTER ABOUT IT.

Agreed.

Rejection is part of life, people! Relationships, job interviews, the college application process, being the ballerina in the middle row instead of the front row... And yes, sorority recruitment is one of those processes where you have mutual selection and rejection. If you're still mulling about it years later, that's a personal issue that should be taken up and dealt with.

It isn't a measure of you as a human being to be broken up with or to be rejected from your top university admissions or sorority choice--- but there's a sense that something is wrong if you've experienced an event that you felt was traumatic-- a rejection, if you will-- that you won't let go of.

And to PNM's reading this-- yes, very likely you will experience disappointment or rejection throughout your life, in sorority recruitment or being a member of a sorority. That's normal and that's natural, and as a human being you learn to cope with it, recover and go about your life as a stronger person who makes good decisions for yourself.
