Annual Chapter Awards
What kinds of awards does your chapter give out each year ? What are the criteria for those awards ?
I'm working with a chapter that doesn't give out any awards and they are looking for ideas. I can think of scholarship awards (highest cumulative GPA for overall chapter, for seniors, juniors, new members, etc.) but not much else.
Thanks for any help.

Brother of the Semester (voted on by the chapter)
Highest GPA
We also gave out an "Outstanding Senior" award a couple of years ago, for a senior that had made an impact on the chapter in his undergrad years.

Many of the awards should be tied into the principles of your organization. Also keep in mind fun/silly awards.
My GLO is a co-ed service fraternity, so currently my chapter has the following awards:
Pledge of the Semester (pledge the Brothers feel best exemplied our principles during the pledge semester)
Brother of the Year (must have been a Brother for atleast a year. Brother the others feel best exemplies our principles)
Cardinal Principle Awards (choicen by our lead officers [who are ineligable] to the Brother who they feel has exemplied one of our 3 cardinal principles of Leadership, Friendship or Service).
Distinguished Service Key (by nomination. Given to the Brother (active or advisor) whom it is felt has given outstanding leadership and service to the chapter over a period of time. We don't feel obligated to give this each year, so its rare and special).
We also recognize the pledge who got the most signatures. I tried to get them to recognize the pledge with the most service hours.
Some chapters have the Pledge Master recognize a pledge.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

In a more lighthearted less serious vein, some GLOs include 'just for fun' types of awards. Some suggested previously on GC have been Drama Queen, Sister Scatterbrain etc.

Well generaly rewards are recognition of the obvious. Usually highest GPA is going to be won by one of the same group of people every year right?
If you wanted to really make awards more meaningful, and weave them into your chapter program, you might want to create performance goals in several diffrent categories.
If each member of the chapter had the option of coming up with goals in several categories, than you could give out recognition awards for people that achieved their goals.
That way a lot more people will be achieving awards also. IT also encourages people to improve GPA or fitness, or attendance or whatever.
IT also gives a lot more people the option of winning serious awards. Which creates a better feeling in chapter.
Also, give recognition awards each semester. Noy every year.

Along James' post - maybe a most-improved GPA award? A most-improved chapter event attendance award? Something to recognize those who have made big time improvements over the past year could be good.

The local ADPi chapter gives three awards:
Sister of the Year
Scholarship (based on chapter activities AND grades!)
Spirit
The last two are named for sisters who have passed away but exemplified Scholarship and Spirit.

Best big of the year, and then everything else is funny, non-serious awards.....and each sister by us gets one (which isn't alot because we are a small chapter currently with only 10 actives)

We change ours every year so each sister gets one. They always have to do with the quarks in our personalitites or who we are dating or where we hang out. I, apparently, spent too much time at Phi Psi so i won the "Didn't you hear i am pledgeing phi psi?" award. They are always a good laugh. Others we've done are like "What? My boobs belong IN my shirt?!" "C.P.A. Degree - Cell Phone Addict" "What! We had a weenie roast? When?!" "White-girl booty dancer"
They are so much fun and everyone gets embarassed so it is great! (We do it at formal, in front of our dates, that is the only hairy part.) We are also small only 30 actives so it does make it easier and we all get the jokes too.

Every sister also gets a personalized award each semester at our scholarship banquet. It's great fun and everyone has a good laugh.
We also used to give certificates to each sister that had above a 3.0 (we're at an engineering school, so other people might think this is kinda low). We still do give a certificate to the sister with the highest chapter GPA though.
There is also 3 other, major awards given out each spring:
Silver - the sister with the "mind" of Alpha Phi
Bordeaux - the sister with the "heart" of Alpha Phi
Watchcare - the sister who has gone above and beyond in watching out for her sisters
And since I've been exposed to the TKE's annual awards each year (they have it at their Red Carnation Ball), they give out:
Most Improved Member
Love, Charity and Esteem Award (from the alumni to the brother they think best exemplifies their ideals)
Most Valuable Member
Best Athlete (silly boys )
Highest GPA
Top New Member
Chapter Sweetheart
It's quite different from ours, but still enjoyable.

We give out an award that exemplifies each of our 4 founders, scholarship awards, best new member, and the new members give an award out to each sister! They are really entertaining and usually poke a little fun at the sister.

To avoid the "same person getting the GPA award every year" thing you can also do a "Most Improved GPA" award.
Other awards I remember have to do with Activities .. most Active, best Sister-Mother, Best New Member, Best Sister-Daughter/Sister-Mother combination, Most Panhellenic Sister. Those were in addition to some others already mentioned. You could also do a Most Philanthropic for someone who attended every service event, made the most on a fund raiser, etc.
