Never 2 Old to go Greek
I am 25 & rushed at the age of 23. I have a friend from high school who recently returned to school. She has always wanted to join a sorority but feels she is too old even though we're the same age. I made it clear to her that while there is an age difference between me and members of my pledge class, there is also a lot of things we share in common that made us sisters.
My pledge class consisted of ladies between 18-25. While I am still the eldest, there are also ladies there of 22 & 23. Age is not that big of an issue as long as you're there for the right reasons.
I know that with age comes different perspective. Many of the ladies love to go to parties and enjoy doing that stuff while I prefer hanging out and going to movies. However, we all share a common bond that allows us to be able to share our lives with each other. That is what has made us friends.
The point of this post is to ask if there is anything else I should inform my friend of to help her make her decision.
NOTE: She never specifically said she wanted to join my sorority. She just wants to experience RUSH and see if she finds where she belongs.
Also, is it better for her to COB or just go through formal Rush?

If your friend is going to the same school that you go to then it sounds as it her age will not make a big difference in going through recruitment. If she is going to another school, it might. She should talk to the office of Greek Life and get some idea of her chances at recruitment if she is not 18 and a freshman.

Going through recruitment is a personal choice. Encourage your friend to visit the department of Greek Life and visit the websites of the sororities on her campus to learn more. It's not for everyone, and older students generally feel that they are in a "different" place in their lives than the typical 18-20 year old, or have established the relationships they want in college.
If she is interested in Greek life, encourage her and support her.

Thanks for the advice. I did give her our chapters website to check it out and also b/c we have links that lead to all the other NPC sororities on campus. I try not to influence her b/c she might not be happy at my sorority but then again, she might enjoy it here. It's all up to her.
It was a great idea to send her to the Greek Life office. I'll tell her to do that. They can probably inform her better than I can.
Now, should I introduce her to the ladies of my house ahead of time and give her time to get to know them and vice-versa or should I let her go through Rush (should she decide yes) and then get to know all the sororities at the same time?

If she has personally shown an interest in your sorority and has expressed a desire to be in your sorority then I don't see why you shouldn't introduce her to your sisters .
If she has only talked about rushing and came to you as a friend that she has known since high school for advice then I would let her go through formal rush and let her make up her own mind without any pressure from you as her friend. Sorry if that sounded harsh didn't mean for it to, just my thought process.
I can relate to your friends concerns. I was very apprehensive about plpedging since I was the oldest in my class and am also the oldest in my sorority (31). But like you I made my decision and it has been the best decision that I ever made and I would not trade my pledge sisters for anything in the world.

Thanks so much. Not harsh at all. She asked some questions about Sigma Kappa but they were very general (i.e. what's it like? How many girls? What do you do? etc.) so I think you're right. I'll let her make up her own mind. I already did suggest that she accompany me to next weeks Greek Week so she can start to get to know what sororities are on campus & so she can get to know some of them.
I plan on introducing her to some friends I have at Tri-Delt, Delta Zeta, Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Omicron Pi, & Delta Gamma. Those are all our NPC sororities on campus & I have friends at all the houses. I'll just introduce her but not mention RUSH. This way, hopefully they'll remember her in the Fall.

I'm a CUSLB Alumna too and somthing you may want to remember is that if your houe is at total after Fall Recruitment then there won't be any COB-ing. I know Sigma Kappa very well has the potential to be a total after next fall. What a problem to have!
