John Frieda Frizz-Ease RELAX
Anyone else tried these products?
I bought the serum and the ripple-effect spray last week and the verdict so far is.....
I HEART John Frieda.
THe Ripple Effect wlooked so great on my hair, and it worked without me having to blow dry it. Spray, scrunch and go out with a cute, curly style.
The serum worked really well when I had to blow dry my hair too. It came out completely smooth, with no nasty frizzy ends.
I HEARTILY RECOMMEND these products.

I was thinking of trying them because my hair is relaxed and I want the curly look. I saw an ad for the RELAX and wanted to give it a try.
How is your hair? Do you have naturally curly hair or what? I have a nice texture, but I don't think that it's curly. It tries to curl when I put the mousse in it. I have tried it all. Let me know what's up. I may have to invest!

I have been using John Frieda's Frizz Ease since it first came about in the 90's and I absolutely love it. It adds moisture and shine to my hair without feeling greasy. It smoothes and always makes my do look more done. When I heard about his new line "Relax" a year ago, I bought the hair serum. It is absolutely the same things as Frizz Ease. I do not think that there is one iota of difference between the two. I'll buy whichever is cheaper. A little goes a long way so I haven't had to replace the bottle that I bought last year. When I do, I'll be getting whatever is on sale.

ClassyLady: I had never used the original formula as I had braids for about two years and obviously didn't need it. I wasn't sure whether the regular stuff was for our hair, so I bought this. THe other one is WAY cheaper though, so I will definitely be picking it up. Thanks for the heads up!
Redefined: My hair is not at all curly when relaxed! I use no-lye relaxer so that my hair is not BONE straight, and looks frizzy at best, I wouldn't say curly by a long shot. I know what you mean about the hair wanting to curl with mousse, lol. I did that too. With this stuff you are supposed to spray your hair and then scrunch it in your fist while blowdrying. I put some serum in it, sprayed with the ripple effect, scrunched and let it air dry. It came out GREAT- I was afraid it would either not work or look like a bootleg jerry curl, but it looks natural (and no jerry curl juice on cthe couch when I sit). Even my Mom approves. I got waves, lol. I put a little mousse in it to have a style and was out the door. How liberating. This product will definitely cut down on the amount of heat I use on my hair and how long it takes.
My curling iron can be put away for special occasions. It's a good thing because I burned my neck last week and was ready to chop the whole damn thing off or RUN to the braid salon.

LovelyIvy, HELP! Okay, I'm no stranger to John Frieda products, but I had never used the Ripple Effect. So, while in the store this weekend, I decided to pick some up. I just knew that I was going to be all cute and stuff for my date last night . Clearly, it didn't work out, LOL. I washed my hair, sprayed on the Ripple Effect, scrunched until I couldn't scrunch anymore and ........... nothing. My hair looked a mess. I ended up just using the serum and blow drying it straight. Did I do something wrong? Did you use it on dry or wet hair? I dug my receipt out of the garbage this morning, so I may just have to get a refund. I'm willing to give it one more try, in case I just did something wrong.

I've never used this product but I've heard of it and want to try it. Do you have to use a diffuser when drying your hair so the curls stay??

I have used the ripple effect and it worked well for me but my girlfriend tried and it did nothing at all. I really do think it depends on how straight your hair gets with a relaxer and your natural texture. Even with a relaxer my hair has a definite visible wave pattern wet and the ripple effect just brings it out more. Her hair is still pretty straight even wet so I thnk the curl is too relaxed to show itself.

I love this stuff!!
I always have a bottle of "Ripple Effect" in stock. I have a relaxer (the kiddie kind) and my hair still gets wavy after I wash it, but it tends to get really frizzy after it dries. Usually I just wash and condition as usual, add a little leave- in- conditioner and some Ripple Effect and go! I don't even blow dry it, just brush it back in a pony-tail and let it air dry.
I also found that KMS curling balm works very well also, but it does cost more than the John Frieda stuff.

I'm glad you said this because I believe my hair may be very similar to yours in texture. My hair always have a curl/wavy pattern to it when it's wet or dry. Actually when it is wet I have more of a semi-loose curl. The only thing is that when I let it (air) dry it comes out looking dull and frizzy. If I wrap it and sit under the dryer it's really wavy. Whenever I relax my hair it will not straighten out completely even if I use a super no-lye relaxer. I've been debating on using a texturizer to bring out the curl/wave pattern a little more, but I'm skeptical about putting that type of chemical in my hair. For one I'm not sure if you can put that on top of a relaxer. My hair is cut really short right now and I'm in the process of letting it grow back out. I'm hoping to achieve the style that Halle Berry had in the James Bond movie with perhaps a little more texture to it. This John Frieda stuff sound pretty interesting, but I'm going to be mad as heck if I go out and spend money on something that doesn't work. I've been down that road too many times to count.
Have any of you used Mizani hair products? I saw in a magazine that they have what I believe is a new relaxer system that gives you the option of wearing your hair straight, wavy or curly.

I'm a former Mizani user. These days, I have the Redken Vertical "relaxer" on my hair. Redken Vertical isn't designed for coarse-textured hair, however. My hair is thick and fine, and I like the bobbed look.

I use Mizani mild relaxer and during the summer, I do wear my hair curly with no problem. It may not the the product in question that you are referring to though. I just wash it, put on a leave in conditioner, use Kera kare Silk n Seal ( ), and go.
For what its worth, I also seen an ad that Wave Nouveau also offers a product that will allow you to wear your hair curly or straight. Now the lady in the ad did not have a jheri curl , but just a natural looking curl.

That is TERRIBLE! See that is why you have to test products on Sunday afternoons when no one is going to see you, lol. If it turns out nicely you can make a special trip somewhere
As previous posters have stated, this thing really all depends on the texture of your hair. I have found out that my hair does the curly thing without ripple effect since my last post on the topic. I don't know when or how my hair changed, because it was always BONE straight, but now I'm a curly girl.
I had braids in for two years altogether and when I took them out I got a no-lye relaxer. So no one is more surprised than me about the present texture of my hair. It is really, really curly. The mousse thing actually does work when I scrunch it now.
So I am really sorry that the RIpple Effect didnt work! I guess it just goes to show us not to assume that all of "our" hair is the same (even thought we should all know it already, since it is what makes buying products such a BITCH).

What do you use to keep it moisturized on a daily basis? Are you washing every day? I wash mine twice a week now and it is working great so far.
I have been using mousse to keep my curls shaped instead of just a massive ball of frizz. I usually use either water or Revlon's Hydrating Braid sheen spray to keep it soft and moisturized (I tried other things but my hair was always dry again five minutes later). There's no mineral oil or petrolatum so it isn't stealing moisture from my hair which is great, but I wonder if it is the best product- it leaves my hair slightly sticky.

I only use essential oils, even when I wear my hair straight. I go the health food store and buy a bottle of Almond oil and a bottle of Avocado oil (These oils WILL NOT leave your hair greasy at all).
I mix them both together in a bottle with a spout on it (I buy the color applicator bottles from Sally's) and grease away. The spout makes it REALLY easy to oil the scalp without untangling the curls (compared when trying to oil the scalp with a comb).
For just general hair dryness, I just spray on Isoplus Oil Sheen and lightly wet.
I don't do the above everyday, more like on an as needed basis (maybe every other day or every 2 days). The Leave in conditionaer and Silk n Seal keeps my hair well moisturized.
Essentil oils and Isoplus oil sheen should run you less than $10.
