Talking Question of morality...

You are just about to sit down in a booth in McDonald's, when you discover a purse in your seat. Do you....
a) return the purse to the manager
b) return the purse to the manager, but not the money, because you just KNOW that shifty bastard would take it.
c) Assume the purse as your own, because of the ancient law of Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers, even to the point of defending it should the rightful owner return.
d) Vow to find the owner of the purse, even if it takes you the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Make this vow in a loud, steady voice, while standing on top of the table, with the purse held high.

I would definitely choose b.

I would choose option A because I wholeheartedly believe in the rules of reciprocity. I have done some less than honest things in my day and in some way shape or form, it came back on me. If the manager is a "shifty bastard" let him reap what he sows, but I would have a clear conscience.

Thumbs up

Well, if the purse had any form of identification in it, I would probably try to find the person myself. Otherwise, I would leave it with the manager, because more likely than not, the person who lost the purse will return to McDonald's upon realizing that they lost their purse during the course of the day.

I agree with Skeebunny in choosing A. I also have not been the most honest person in my life, so I would fell the wrath of my conscience.

Dang! I feel like a real loser now! I didn't think about the person returning to McDonald's to look for the purse. I guess it would be nice to find their cash still in their purse...I suppose I have to change my "final" answer to A. SkeeBunny, you brought up a point that I recently discussed with a friend of mine. I totally believe in reaping what you sew, and what goes around comes around...but what if the person who lost the purse is actually a horrible person who stole her grandmother's social security check and cashed it (thus the money in the purse) and her "come around" is losing the money (it would serve her right). Now, I did a wonderful, unselfish deed a couple of days prior and I have been looking for ways to come up with money so that I may visit my sick auntie Sue.....I walk into McDonalds and there (like a blessing in disguise) the purse is waiting for me.
I know this is a far-fetched way of looking at it, but would it still be wrong for me to take the money? If the thief gets it back, it's unlikely that she would give the money back to grandma. Just curious.

A. Although this did happen in some form to my husband. He found someone's wallet in the middle of the street around Xmas time. It ID in it along with tons of credit cards! Well, he didn't take it to police, but went to the guy's home and returned it to him in person.

Yes, I've learned alot from him...

A. I have been on the opposite side of this situation. Boy, was I relieved when I went back to the store and was able to retrieve my wallet with EVERYTHING intact.

To be honest, I wasn't worried about the money as much as some important documents I had in my wallet. But, like I said, I was pleasantly surprised.

I would pick A. I've had my wallet stolen before (totally different than losing it I know) but just the same, I know how it feels to lose all those important things and having to cancel credit cards, etc. It's scary knowing that someone now knows where you live and whatever other info they get from your wallet.

I would definitely check it for money! Take it if I found some, and turn in the rest! Sorry, I look at it like it's a windfall!

Sexy Mocha,

I've thought about your scenario, and I still say I would chose A. Black folk always want to say that the Lord has ordained them to carry on some dealings (be they shady or not). That's like a crackhead saying that God wants him to steal my tv, sell it and use the money to buy crack, all so that he won't have to suffer withdrawel. Because God is a merciful God, now isn't he? I just think that we can chalk any shady situation up to as being what God has ordained us to do. I know that "what is for me, is for me" and God won't present that in shady packaging.

SkeeBunny, Aint it the truth though? It's so much easier to try to justify what we have done, instead of not doing it in the first place.

KARMA, KARMA, KARMA...that's all I have to say. I can be absent minded sometimes and I have lost both my purse and my wallet. The wallet was never turned in...and even though it was my fault I still felt bad because I had to get a new i.d.,ss card and credit cards. My purse was returned and I was so grateful AND lucky. I wouldn't want to put someone else through that. Just think...that could have been rent money, or this months grocery money or what if they're on vacation and that's all the money they have. I would hate to think that they needed that money to get their diabetes medication...I know that seems farfetched but you never know...and who wants that on their conscience???
