Canadian postage?

Hello! I know we've got some Canadians on GC, and I'm hoping that y'all can help me out.

I'm in the process of addressing wedding invitations, and my fiance's dad asked me to include some Canadian friends of his to the guest list. Can any of you tell me how much postage I should put on these invitations in order for them to make it to Ontario? I know the price is higher because it's going internationally, but I have no idea how much higher.

Also, I need to put postage on the response cards so that these folks can RSVP back to us, but I seriously doubt if a USA stamp will work in Canada. Is there any way for me to buy some Canadian stamps for these response cards here in the USA? I think that I have only 3 Canadian invites to send out, so I don't really need a ton of stamps.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

US postage stamps, unfortunately, will not work mailed from Canada. In larger post offices, you can purchase International Reply Coupons (IRCs) - one IRC equals the equivalent of a first-class stamp and is exchanged for the proper local postage when mailed from Canada or any other foreign country. A little-known but very useful thing that is encouraged by international postal regulations.

International Reply Coupons are expensive....like $1.50 or more.

I don't know the value of the US Stamp you need for the cards to make it
FROM the USA
TO Ontario...
but for Canadians to send the RSVPs BACK to you, it will be a $0.65 Canadian stamp. Source:http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/of...us/rates-e.asp

I can always pick up 3 stamps for you (well, 4 actually, cuz I need one, in order to mail it to you! ), send them to you, so you can put them on your Canadian RSVPs.
Let me know if you want to take me up on this offer (PM is fine).....

Don't discount buying online as well:

or by phone:
National Philatelic Center 1-800-565-4362 (I doubt this 1-800 will "work" in the USA) or
1- (902) 863-6550
7am - 7pm (Mon. - Fri.), ET

I haven't mailed anything to Canada in a few months, so I don't remember exactly, but I think it's $0.40 or $0.60 to send a letter. If you haven't already figured it out, someone at your local post office should be able to tell you the exact cost. Hope this helps!

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to take CutiePie2000 up on her offer to buy the stamps and let me reimburse her. One thing taken care of for the wedding, 106 to go! LOL

Thanks again!

The stamps are on the way! :)

dzrose,
I got to the post office at lunch and bought you 7 stamps total (6 for you, 1 for my envelope to send them to you). The postal-lady said that it should take about a week to get to Georgia, so hopefully by next Thursday, you will receive them.

I think it came to $4.84 or so (I enclosed the receipt).
That is about $3.45 American (more or less).

Glad to help you out!

Thanks soooooo much! I'm putting some $$$ in the mail to you tomorrow. (Sorry that my inbox was full -- I'm about to clean it out a bit.)

Forgot to ask when I first posted this... Is USA money okay, or would you prefer a check?

it's 60 cents to mail things to Canada.

You can buy the 60 cent stamps at the post office, or just have them put one of those postage sticker things on it.
When I get mail at school, a lot of people just put 2 stamps on it, but I refuse to give them any more money than I have to!
