New house mom!

Okay, I've been sitting on this information since Saturday, and I can finally tell someone...

We got a new house mom!

I mentioned in my summer rush thread that our former house mom resigned in June to return to Oklahoma State and be the house mom for the Beta Chapter there.

Well after about 3 weeks of interviews and searching, we punk'd the UNL chapter of Delta Tau Delta and got their House Director. I am very excited, because she is one of my good friends (I'm a College of Arts & Sciences Student Ambassador which is a program she created and directs). As DeltAlum knows she's a phenomanal woman.

It was obviously a tough decision for her to leave her Delt boys, but she's excited for the new opportunity and new experiences.

This is really a great way to cap off our summer rush, and I couldn't be happier with the decision.

Of course you realize, this means WAR!

Just kidding. Congratulations, she really is very impressive.

Yeah, we're not really sure how Delt is taking it, but we did talk about the potential damage to inter-greek relations...then decided that it shouldn't really matter.

Congrats on the new house mom!

We got a new one too for this year and she'll start in the fall. I haven't met her yet but I am a little iffy about her b/c she is a member of a chapter on our campus that really does not like my chapter at all. Also everyone in the house wanted a dog this year but she hates dogs. I hope she's nice though...

I was wondering if all the houses at UNL have house moms or just you guys. Are house moms for fraternities big in the midwest and south? In California I haven't heard of such a thing.

It seems to me that in most bigger midwest schools, (I go to Mizzou) a house mom is a requirement. You can not function as an official chapter on my campus without a house mom. No idea why we have this rule, but oh well.

I think that it is a requirement for all chapters with chapter houses to have a house director. If it isn't a requirement, everyone still has one. I know Phi Psi has a house Dad, and there have been houses with House Parents.

I don't know what your houses are like out there, and I suppose it depends a lot on your university. But for us in the midwest with the traditional chapter house for 50+ members it's a major component of Greek Life.

Most of the sororities at USC (southern cal) have house moms, however I don't believe that any of the fraternities do.

In responce to the comment that Betarulz made about inter-greek relations....This past year we got Sigma Kappa's house mom and ours went to Gamma Phi Beta and it didn't hurt our relations with those chapters at all...no worries!

I think one of the biggest reasons for housedirectors is to reduce liability insurance for the house. But housediretors can also be really crucial in helping to plan events and be parents away from home.

Also, I'm proud to say I'm also a Nebraska Beta, and we're damn proud to have our new housemom.

What's up Geoff

Okay, well this is dissappointing news...but I guess DeltAlum can stop his war preparations .

Basically our new housemom decided that her heart was still at Delt and that she didn't feel right about leaving them to go to a chapter on the same campus. I don't have all the details but knowing her like I do, this doesn't really surprise me. I'm dissappointed because I was really stoked to have her as our house director.

So anyways we have to start up the search again, hopefully the other top candidates we were looking at will still be interested, and the search won't take too long, but I assume that we'll be opening the house without a House mom.

I am really sorry about this recent turn of events. I hope that things work out, and you get the best house director ever!!
