Selling stuffed animals - I don't know who the braniac was who approved this - they were very tacky and impossible to sell.
I wasn't around for this one, but some of the younger alums HATED when we sold Avon. The ones who didn't like the products had a hard time convincingly selling it, and the ones who did ended up spending too much of their own $$$ which defeated the whole purpose.

lol funny fundraisers but creative. too bad they didn't work out.
My worst fundraiser was saleing donuts. I think we broke even. Who would buy donuts for more than they sell in the store?

magazines
We're doing a magazine drive right now, and a bunch of us couldn't sell ANY. I've done different ones back in grade school that was no problem, but the one we're doing now is through campusfundraisers.com, and it sucks! each subscription is $40, and although a lot of them are for like 2 1/2 years, how many college kids have $40 just to help you out? Even worse, they only give us 3 days we can sell for, and there are only 24 magazines to choose from. And if we don't make our goal, (which we're not going to) we don't get the full amount of money....our proceeds are greatly cut. We still get I think $10 per order, but if we could sell 60 we were going to get $1200. If there were more of us selling it might have worked, but we only had 16 or 18 of us, and we each were supposed to sell 5. I sold ZERO unless I decided to buy one myself.

We also tried the magazine subscriptions from campusfundraisers.com by they were impossible to sell. its not worth the time it takes to try to sell them.

I have a great fundraiser, but no one seems to go for it....any ideas why?
I work for a company that conducts fundraisers on college campuses (http://www.blp.customink.com), and every one I've ever run has made the student org. quite a bit of money for the amount of work put into it. It's selling t-shirts, which are fairly easy to sell to college students. Any idea why I can't get more organizations to do this fundraiser?

Y'all, my chapter did the magazine subscription thing, too, and it majorly flopped. I mean, it was pretty much a waste of our time. We were each only required to sell one, which I thought would be easy, but it turns out that at $40 for a 2-year subscription, everyone I asked was like, "You have *got* to be kidding me!" A bunch of girls ended up just buying the subscription themselves, but I did not have that much money lying around...and if I had, I sure wouldn't have spent it on ONE magazine subscription. So guess what--at our first chapter meeting this semester, we were informed that if we failed to sell our one magazine, we have to pay $50!! Wish someone had said something about that LAST semester when we actually did the stupid thing. I should have just bought the damned subscription and let it be...

Magazines... well we actually had some limited success with those magazine sales. Had a few guys sell several subscriptions. All the profits went to their own formal costs but I can say that if they go out into their communities -- (folks at church seemed to buy the most) they will meet with success.
The cut you get on the magazine sales is pretty good as well.

Back in the old days......
We had a sorority on campus back in the late 80s (name omitted to protect the innocent) that held a one-day fundraiser in Marsh Plaza (the center of campus).
It was an M&M eat-a-thon. They took pledges from innocent bystanders who were betting on how many M&Ms they could sit around and eat in a day.
Credibility for Greek philanthropy on campus got flushed down the toilet that day. The campus paper was shredding them for 3 months.

We did the credit card signing and you get weird toys or t-shirt thing. It sucked ass. I was stuck with this stupid t-shirt begging people to sell their soul to the devil.

We decided to work at an outdoor concert, selling beer, food, whatever. We were SUPPOSED to get a percentage of what we sold as well as a small hourly fee. Well, it was one of those festivals that lasted a little over 11 hours! Soooo, by hour #7 we were all exhausted, sweaty and wanted to go home. We assumed it would be okay to leave seeing as though we had time cards and they did inventory checks on the hour so they knew about how much we had sold. Yeah, so we go and clock out- about 8 of us and then the fundraising chair and her friend stayed longer. Then, the fundraising chair announces at the meeting a few weeks later that the people that left made no money because they left early so she's keeping the money that came in because she and her friend were the only ones to stay!!! So, being the president, I asked to see the check because I don't see how the other 8 people could not have gotten paid for anything and she is still refusing to get it for me! Now, we're on break so I haven't been in contact with her, but even our advisor has been trying to track her and OUR check down!!
