What Would You Do?
Stole this from a group on myspace.com
What would you do if someone you could not stand was to pledge at your chapter? Let's just say that the person met all requirements, but in the past this person may have had words with you-dates your ex or is dating someone you like or wanted to get with-or may have tried to talk to your boyfrend/girlfriend etc. Would you try your best to convince the chapter not to let him/her in or would you patiently wait and say to yourself:"Payback is a muther.....?"

This thread is similar to a recent one in the DST forum (that might be what you are thinking of Soror AKA2D).
Questionable Morals
Faith in Action your question is slightly different in that the candidate in question did not necessarily have questionable morals but is just someone we don't like...is that correct?

Nope. There were a series of threads wayyyyyyyy back in the day...'01ish, '02ish where something like this was asked. But, GC had a problem and many of the threads were lost. Maybe that's why I can't find them.

so THAT'S how you pronounce the username--i had been trying to figure it out!
the "reasons" listed in the original post, IMHO, are not valid enough to deny my organization of a worthy candidate. if everyone else in the chapter were on board with this candidate, then the soror/frat in question needs to step outside of themselves and realize that they may be passing up someone who would do the sister-/brotherhood some good and GET OVER IT.

Yes...not someone who has questionable morals but someone who is the thorn in your flesh or who someone who has done something against you (either before you became a member or not knowing that you are member) then pursues your organization.

Chilllle I been there and done that, graduated and moved on. It seems like Alumni chapters want to rule the undergrad chapters anyway, even when you do all of your service program-plus some, have the hightest GPA on campus and then they advocate for you not to run your initiation process. I was fed up and gave up and let them bring in what and who they wanted. Needless to say, we did not get the cream of the crop but who knows the personalities and intension of people better than the undergrad chapter? They think them. This is a sore subject for me, maybe I need to just keep quite.

It depends on what they did. If it were something petty (especially involving a man as you used for example in your initial post) then no, I wouldn't try to keep them out. However, if they did something like, stole my identity and charged up my credit cards, or something else extreme that would make me think that they are dishonest and would cause harm to the organization then I would speak up.
ETA: The stolen identity thing did not just pop into my head. I know of a fraternity member that did something like that...

I would heed this advice...
I think that glib and pettiness are rather shallow characterisitics for any kind of selection criteria...
One needs something tangibly substantiated and credible to remove someone from a pursuit of membership.
