Is Your House Zombie-Proof?

Zombie-proof house is a modern fortress. Concrete dwelling with movable walls and a drawbridge probably would protect against tornadoes and hurricanes, too.

We've written about why you're unlikely to get a tornado-proof house. But you can get a house that protects you against another scary peril: zombies.

That's right. An architect in Poland designed and built a zombie-proof house.

Maybe he was inspired by the blog post from the CDC expert in how to survive a zombie attack.

LOL. I'm a big fan of zombie movies with the original being Night of the Living Dead (yes, I own it). I will watch a good zombie movie a million times. One of my favs is the remake of Dawn of the Dead (yes, I own it) but I'll watch any zombie movie at least once.

I admit that I have hypothetically and relatively fleetingly thought of what I would do should a zombie outbreak occur. LOL. I have probably also had nightmares about it. Don't judge me. Yet, I never thought of planning my life around such an occurrence. Maybe this architect in Poland knows something we don't know. No.

Yeah the blog I posted cites that blog post. I wonder if the Poland architect confused a blog post with a CDC official statement. LOL.

Do you like good Zombie books?

If so I recommend Feed and Deadline from Mira Grant (First two in the Newsflesh series) you're about 25-30 years POST Rising. Everyone is infected, if you die, you reanimate and so does any mammal over 40 lbs. It's a very different take on the genre and written by one of my favorite authors (Seanan McGuire under the pseudonym)

ETA: I forgot what else I wanted to put here, that people who were fans of zombies and zombie movies helped save lives because they knew wtf was going on when the news channels were clueless. Similarly George/Georgia/Georgette are the most common names for children after Mr. Romero.

Also good, Aftertime (more 'infected' than zombies), World War Z (of course

), and The Walking Dead anthology (there may be a second one now too)

Hell if I had the money.... Don't think I haven't figured out three ways out if the zombie apocalypse starts, biggest issue is not having a good weapon but I will improvise. I just need a crowbar...

Noooooope nope nope nope. That movie (even the lame parts) scared the bejeezus outta me! I couldn't do it a second time. I'm not really even scared by zombies like that--Ghostface freaks me out way more (because being stalked by a serial killer is slightly more likely to happen to me than being chased down by the undead.)

Many years ago, I lived in a neighborhood where people had bars on the windows and I had an awesome steel patio door. It was actually a nice door...I miss it. The bars and patio doors could fend off human attacks and also zombie attacks. There are three things to consider:

1) How would I get to my family should a zombie attack occur?
2) What weapon? Crowbars do not suffice. LOL.
3) Food. Let's say I (with or without others) get stuck in the crib...is there enough food?

Zombie movie haters never prosper. I also like 28 Days Later. Have you seen it?

Crowbars/blades are better than guns because they're quieter and don't need reloading. That's why you have to get out of the movie genre DrPhil, if you're going to survive!

I like 28 Days Later too, but I do make an infected vs. zombies distinction generally. Mostly because if we have fast zombies, I'm screwed.

Hey hey hey there's a difference between a hater and a scaredy cat! I haven't seen that one. Whenever I heard it mentioned, I thought people were confusing "28 Days Later" with "28 Days." It took a long time for me to realize they were 2 different movies.

Is that one scary? It's not the zombies that get me but the really quiet moments then BAM a loud noise. That's why I was no good all through I Am Legend.

28 Days (and Weeks) Later aren't necessarily "jump out from a closet" scary. They're scary because the zombies (technically, the "infected") are fast.

The real issue is does your sorority house have a plan to defend it from an attack by the undead. I bring this up at every chapter meeting but my sisters are only interested in the next date party. They will regret it when the undead eat their brains.

I have seen crowbars and blades used on some movies over the years. But, I've grown accustomed to crowbars and blades depicted as taking longer and therefore guns being best.

LOL. I agree with the infected vs. just-dead-and-now-alive distinction. They are technically all considered zombies.

And technically the just-dead-and-now-alive are often now-alive because of some infection...or chemical warfare...or something. They just got the slow end of the deal.

I Am Legend was good (even the Will Smith version was decent, in my opinion) but I actually don't consider that a zombie movie. That could be my own bias.

They were running their ass off. LOL. It was a break from the slow ass zombies that walk so darn slow that you wonder how people keep getting killed. Without zombie training, I guess I'd be terrified enough that a group of slow zombies could totally kick my ass. LOL.

Okay then it isn't just me. I guess it's just like the other infected movies where the people become, what many consider to be, zombies.

LOL @ BadCat25. Keep fighting the good fight. Maybe having a zombie bookclub or zombie movie nights will make your sisters recognize what's at stake. Or, they may kick you out of the sorority and try to commit you to an insane asylum. The "infected" absolutely love hospitals and insane asylums. Be careful!
