Question about rush infractions
Ok, so I work with like atleast 6 girls who are in sororities. I'm always talking to these girls, but I am sort of wondeing if I'm not supposed to be talking to them because it's getting close to rush and I assume that they're going to be rushing me...what exactly makes up a rush infraction, and by talking to them is that an infraction?

My understanding is that, since you have a work relationship with these women, you continue that. However, you don't talk about rush in any way, shape, or form. After all, there are people out there whose roomie has talked them into rushing, and of course roomies still talk.
I'll be "talking" to my friend who's rushing, but not about rush during that week. It will be easier than you think, unless one of them tries to dirty rush you.
Anyone else wish to post their 2¢?

First off, if a sister and a PNM talk in violation of strict silence, it's the sister and her sorority, not the PNM, who gets in trouble.
My school's rush rules allow sisters who have a prior relationship with a PNM (work usually counts) to get an exemption. They'd be able to talk about anything except rush.
If I were you, I'd ask your coworkers to find out exactly what your school's rules are, and get an exemption if necessary.
In any case, I don't think they can prevent you from talking to each other about work-related matters while at work.

You may want to alert the panhel office of the situation, I know that's what we did when we had sisters who had some sort of a relationship with a PNM that made it difficult to maintain strict silence (i.e. roommates, worked together, were in a small clinic-type class together).
Always better to be safe than sorry.

We also have strict guidelines about talking to PNMs in the months leading up to rush (we have deferred rush). There are certain situations, however, that speaking to members are unavoidable. Such as work, classes (groups, lab partners,ect...) i think its ok to talk to them just as long as conversation topic isnt how awesome XYZ chapter is, or how perfect you would be in that particular chapter. If the members are talking about that kind of stuff then i would alert panhel. Bottom line...just dont talk about rush with them and there should be no problems.

Do these girls attend the same school as you? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks girls!! These girls do attend the same school as me....no one at work knows I'm rushing though, because I didn't want to bring up the topic and then have them possibly get a rush infraction from it as well. And as for customers (we get a lot of girls in sororities in the store ), the same thing goes right, just don't talk about rush at all and I should be fine? Also, does anyone know the specific policy at asu?

I told the girl that I work with that is in a sorority here that I was rushing only after she had told me something related to what they would be doing. I only told her so that she could avoid any inappropriate conversation.

You're fine. Just don't talk about recruitment/Greek Life. A PNM will never be penalized for an infraction-- the sorority women are the ones who would be penalized and they have all had recruitment workshops in the spring, so they know what is taboo and what is not.

Not formally penalized, anyway. A girl who is rushing and is always trying to talk about rush with sorority members might get cut by a house because they see she won't play by the rules or because they're afraid she'll get them in trouble.
But I think you'd have to work pretty hard to get to that point.

As long as you do not talk about Rush/soroities then anything is fine. That fact that would work with several girls in different houses looks good as well.
But, if the girls mention stuff to you about rushing other then, "hey i didn't know you are rushing that is cool." then you have to tell your Rho Chi. But, in no way will you get in trouble and I believe it will be annoymous that way it does not hurt your chance of recieving a bid from that house or anyother.
Anyone else here from asu that knoews more about this???
Good Luck
