Do blondes really have more fun?
I have noticed that many African American women are beginning to flaunt the blonde/platinum hair look. While I must admit that with the proper care and maintenance from an excellent stylist, these hairstyles are quite becoming on a few of us. The rest of us could use a little more help.
My question to this forum is. Do you all feel that the blonde look is an expression of the African American woman's creativity and versatility relative to hairstyles or is it a shameless attempt to emulate white standards of beauty??

Let's just say I am a blonde (chemically of course). I am sure that most of the sorors and sisterfriends on this board that know me would say I did this because of my creativity and versatility ... I would never try to change my blackness, that is what makes me 'ME'!
Why is it always about black and white ... I also had mahogany hair once am I trying to be diana ross (I know that is corney yall - lol). As with the Fred H thing, I guess I am also tired of the white/black thing move on! But Professor feel free to speak your piece on this

I think that blonde hair is a fashion trend that shows how beautiful & versatile we can be. Although I don't have blonde hair, I love the honey blonde looks that I've seen on Halle Berry, Whitney, and escpecially Monica. But just as we all can't wear spandex.... the same goes for blonde hair.

Sister Tickledpink I'm with you - - - I started to reply several times but the more i wrote the more twisted my views became. To this end, I'm only going to say that those that have creative looks (that includes wigs, extensions and all the other things that enhance ones natural beauty) P L E A S E keep your roots touched up or as I like to say, "Keep It Tight."

One other thing I often say: Looking good isn't easy, it's just regarding!

Soror DG just go with the flow but seriously I have the blonde streak thang going on - total blonde is not me! I got it done on my birthday after I left ILL. I came home and wasn't feeling like my age had just gone up so I made the change then ... I did cut (real short) and color... I am going to put up a picture on my blackplanet page this weekend, so yall can check it out.
P.S. tickledpink I handed my stylist a picture of monica, if I can find that I will post that picture too, yall be the judge

Professor I almost got upset about the 'Keep your roots touched up' part but then I decided not to read so much into it and now I am LOL (shoot it is true, sista's need to check the hairdo sometimes).
But on the flip side we all know that true beauty is within us and it reflects in what we say and do everyday ... peace yall!
Sisterly

I have never seen Monica with Blonde hair is must look nice( I never watch TV). As far as Blonde hair goes..... I do not think it is any different than perming your, putting weave in or whatever. If my hair could take it lord knows I would add some color because I am tired of this dk brown look. Yall know sistas can do alot of different things with our hair. So if one finds a style that becomes them then wear and wear it well. I know a sista that shaved all her hair off and then dyed it blonde and she looks very nice with her like that. Its nothing I could pull off but she looks tight

Hey sista! Much love to all my AKA Gems!
Some do it out of curiosity. Some do it out of creativity. Some do it to hide something.
Until they open their mouths, I really don't know why.
