Lambda Chi at Univ. Tenn-Knoxville

Hi guys my name is Ryan Daley and I just got on this site to communicate with other Lambda Chi's and tell you about my chapter as well. I go to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and we have a very strong Lambda Chi chapter, in all we have about 110 brothers but only 90 are active right now. Last fall we got 52 bids and initiated 37 guys, which was one of our biggest classes ever. Right now we are in trouble because we got put on probation for a year and many of our junior class is dropping out even though we have a strong senior class. Most of the juniors who usually run the fraternity do not care about the fraternity anymore and think the Greek System is a load of crap. The past few years at UT, KA, Kappa Sig and Phi Delta Theta have all been kicked off, with KA coming back this fall and Kappa Sig soon as well. The Greek System here is going down very fast with only about 17% of our 30,000 student body going Greek, in the past it was much higher. While as a chapter we are doing fine but this rush is very important because it will make us one of the top three fraternities which we are right now, or with a bad rush one of the top seven because competition is high here.
Also I would like to point out I know a good deal about other Lambda Chi chapters in Tenn. and North Carolina, I am originally from Chapel Hill, NC and the Gamma Nu- UNC-CH chapter is doing very well there. Also App. St, Elon, UNC- Charlotte and other schools in NC have strong chapters. The only problem is besides UNC Charlotte and UNC no other big schools or notoroious schools have Lambda Chi chapters. NC State, Duke, Davidson, and I heard ECU was in big financial trouble a few years ago I would like to find out what happened to them. NC State and Duke would be great schools to start chapters at because the greek scene is growing at both schools and I heard Lambda Chi use to be very strong at both schools. In other news the recolonization at Memphis is for real, it use to be an extremely strong chapter and some of our older fraternity brothers are helping it out to become the same strong Lambda Chi Alpha chapter it used to be.
Well that's a lot of info for now I hope to hear some replies and information about some of the schools in NC, and Tenn.

I'm friends with a Duke LXA alum - they were closed LONG ago, because some of the chapter members refused to accept the change in membership criteria from "white protestant males" - this was in the turmoil of the early 60's...they voluntarily turned in their charter.

My God-daughter just graduated from Elon where she was a Sigma Kappa. Hope the Lambda Chi brothers there are doing well (my Little Bro says they're cool), and of course they have a neat zeta designation: Delta Pi.

As for your chapter, Ryan, remember the open mottoes like Naught Without Labor. It takes work!

After that, it's all Delta Pi.

Jono

Smile

Ryan, welcome to Greek Chat!!!

Years back, I stopped by the LXA house with my then wife (EX) now. We were cordually greeted, shown through the house, and given and invitation to stay over night and for dinner. We were traveling and could not accept the offer.

I always had a soft spot for the Chapter there.

I am surprised about the ebb in Greek Life there.

Hope you enjoy being on site as a great bunch of Brothers and other Greeks here!!!!!
