Buying Used Badges?

Hi everyone,

I was reading a thread in the Greek Life section where a few people mentioned that their HQ made "used" or "rescued" badges avaiable for sale at a discounted price. Do you know if our EO does this?

Thanks!

Hmm I don't think so. I know quite a few sisters try to buy the ones that get sold on ebay and return them to their owner or chapter...or international. I know I personally made sure a chapter got one of their pins that was from one of their charter members off of ebay. It was one of those really nice ones with the seed pearls; the president told me they display it in their house!

Anyway but I think it's a good idea. A lot of people lose their pins over the years and want to replace them. Of course the pin wouldn't have their initials and date on the back.

Rescuing badges

I have rescued many A-Phi badges and have given them to Phi's who are special to me. Some are jeweled and some are not. They at least, I strongly believe, need to stay in the fraternity.

I had given two jeweled badges (pearls) to the past and a current president of my home chapter and to see the look on their faces when they saw their gift was such a treat. I was so proud to give it to them...

I'll keep doing this to the best of my ability!

I thought it was a good idea, too. I'd love to be able to rescue a badge from eBay, but I just don't have that kind of $ to go up against tyoregon. I'd like a new pearled badge, but it'll probably be years before I can afford the one I want. Buying a used badge would be a great way for people to upgrade at a lower cost.

Sorry to barge in ( I found this searching for something else).

Our IH is one of those that does it, and we also try to buy them from eBay.

If anyone would like more information on the process our IH uses to resell them, PM me and I can give you all the info. In a nutshell, they sell them to women who are looking to replace a badge they have lost, and the badges are ones that have been returned by women who have deactivated.

We also have a Task Force (of which I'm the chair) that is looking at the eBay issues and pools our money to buy badges that are historically significant.

Let me know if you would like any more information!
