?s about subletting and bills

Let's say that there are 6 people renting a house from May to April. 2 have decided to live in the house over the summer, 2 have decided to have subletters live in the house from May to August and 2 have decided not to live in the house until September. What is the fairest way to split up the utilities bills from May to August?

1) Split 20 to 30% of the bills split between the 2 not living in the house and the remaining 70 to 80% split among the 4 living in the house

2) Have the bills split evenly between the 4 living in the house and none charged to those not living in the house

3) Have the bills evenly over all 6

4) Split 50% over all 6, then split the remaining 50% over the 4 living in the house

5) Other?

Any advice regarding this situation would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say split them over all 6 - everybody signed the lease, so that's the most "fair" to all the parties involved.

Thumbs up

Simple, all 6 pay the rent as they are responsible!

Money comming in is paid and split by all on % to the ones who were living there!

There will be someone who will renig and you will end up with teh Bill!

Split it 6 ways. Each person is responsible for their share regardless of whether or not they live there. If they're claiming a space, then they need to cover for it.

Two people are set because they'll be living there.

Two people are covering for their share by getting sub-letters. (FYI - this is often illegal. You might want to check).

The last two need to cough up the rent and bill money or risk losing their rooms. They can: a) find subletters b) pay for it c) refuse to pay and risk having their rooms given away to someone else before September. After all, it's not fair to tie up two spaces and then not pay for them.

TRUST ME....you do NOT want the hassle of having to calculate some obnoxious formula only to have people argue with you about your math skills yadda yadda. It's irrelevant anyway...6 people renting = 6 people paying. Period.
