New To Atlanta!

Hello all!
I just moved to Atlanta from Chicago and I just wanted to see if anyone was in the area and would mind showing me the city a bit. I have been here for a month and I'm enjoying it thus far but I still haven't found a place to get some good FRIED CHICKEN! Everyone that's from Chicago and lives here now told me that I was going to miss the food and that's so true. Anyway, any responces would be appreciate!
Thanks.

My absolute favorite place to get chicken is this little spot in the Underground Mall. I don't even know what it is called but it is all the way at the end of the food court. They make the BEST lemon pepper wings ever!

I feel you True Pursuit, I just relocated to ATL from New Orleans and the food I miss is my Gulf Coast--DEEP South SPICY seafood. Maybe its just me but the seafood up here (even though it is Still the south) is NOT the same!

Thanks for the info

Hey librasoul22,
Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to check that out. I have yet to go to the Underground Mall because I live in Cobb County.
I have to tell you... I was reading your signature and girl you are too funny! And that location thing was funny as well.
Do you live in Atlanta right now?

ENIGMATIC, we are having the same delimma huh? Seeing as though I'm from Chicago I've never had really GOOD seafood but I love it though! The extent of good seafood in Chicago is Red Lobster... yeah, I know.

Can't really help Enigmatic with the seafood, although I am partial to C'est Bon, a little spot in Lithonia. The owners are from New Orleans and went to school at, I think, Southern. I think they could kick up the heat a bit, and their shrimp leaves much to be desired, but all in all a nice spot with good food..

Regarding Fried Chicken...

Gladys and Ron's Chicken and Waffles, in Lithonia (near StoneCrest Mall) and on Peachtree in Midtown has some good fried Chicken.

Paschal's is an Atlanta landmark and is located on MLK near the Atlanta University Center. GREAT fried chicken!!

The Beautiful is a resturant near the AUC as well (on Cascade) that does great soul food.

I've never been, but I know some people like "This is It". I know there is a location in Cobb County, so that way you don'thave to travel so far.

That's all I can think of right now, but if I think of some more, I'll let you know.

I'm guessing that I am a LOT older than you, and I really don't know much about Cobb County, but shoot me an email about showing you around.

Welcome to Atlanta!!!

Despite My Location :C)...

I'm also in Atlanta.
Since I work downtown I go to Underground for lunch here and there. Librasoul that place is called "Barbeque Works" because their hot wangs (yes, "wangs") are the bomb!!! The place all the way at the end, next to the Mexican place...

Paschal's...great fried chicken. But if you haven't heard CAU is thinking about tearing that place down to build some new dorms there. Some people in the city are working to have Paschal's down as a historic site.

Welcome (again) to Atlanta

I know you think I've forgotten about you, but I promise I have not!

How do y'all feel about doing a mini-meet & greet?

CAU is the owner of the historic Paschal's. There is a new (and improved I must say--It's beautiful!) Paschal's on Northside drive near Morris Brown. It's down the street from the Dome and near Central United Methodist Church if you are familar with the area. I actually mispoke when I said it was on MLK.

Check it out!!

Let me know about a meet and greet. If I'm available, I'm down!

Paschal's

There is a Paschal's that is new and improved right up from the dome. The one that is going to be torn down is the one up the street on MLK . . . the old one . . . the historic one . . . the one where a lot of decisions were made. It's a shame, but at least the one up the street on Northside is doing well.

THIS IS IT in Cobb County is OK (behind the McDonald's on the corner of Spring and Hargrove). I have a closed-minded idea of what good food is and am trying to break out of the habit of going to the same places over and over and over again. There is a place called DOC'S (you can see the sign off Cobb Parkway -- about a block north of the mall behind the Walgreen's); on Wednesdays from 8:00 to 10:00, EVERYTHING on the menu is $3 as long as you buy a drink and the drink does not have to have alcohol (tea, soft drink, juice, etc.). It is rustic and the theme is american fair, but it's close to you and good and did I say that everything (not just the appetizers) on the menu is $3??

I am not sure what kind of food you like, but if there is something specific you are looking for, let me know.

If you are looking for places that are historical and specific to Atlanta, you may want to go to Atlanta.net (the website for the convention and visitors bureau). I only have one or two specific suggestions that you try. MARY MAC'S TEA ROOM off Ponce De Leon is a wonderful place to try. (http://www.marymacs.com/) It is . . . well . . . delightful.

@Eclipse

Oh, I didn't know there was a new one! I went to the "historic" one. I'm a little familiar with the AUC (I am going to have to be since GSS has a new colony at CAU) but not a whole lot. I live in Clayton County. But I will be sure to find the new one!

I've heard about Mary Mac's but I have yet to go there. I keep hearing great things about it.

Thumbs up Great Idea!

Thanks a lot for all the great ideas. I would definitely love a meet a greet. Actually, I could put something on at my apartment! It's rather spacious and we can make a "thing" of it. Let me know what you all think about that.

well, since you VOLUNTEERED (she did volunteer, i quoted, i have proof, she can't change her mind later ) and if you're sure you won't mind, that would be good.

everyone interested, please hit me up with your e-mail addresses. i'll set up a yahoo group for us so we can discuss w/o taking up space here.

The Paschal's located on Northside was a parking lot or a couple of plugs of grass or a gas station or a hair salon or liquor store or a free clinic less than five years ago . . .

Food places . . . there is always a list of the usual suspects that you can find in many major cities (Houston's, Pappadeaux, McCormick and Schmick's, PF Chang's, On the Border, Mick's, Old Spaghetti Factory, etc.); if you stick with the stand-bys, you will find something that you like. There are two locations for Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles (get the dark meat, the white meat is dry); oh, I think Ron Winans is on the sign too. There are two locations for Dugan's, but to me, Dugan's is dated because it USED TO BE the hot spot. Nikimoto's and Ru San's both give good sushi . . .

Shucks, if you want a good all-you-can-eat salad, just go to Jason's Deli and load up (especially in the to-go containers . . . that's my preference).

I don't live in Atl right now. I was born in Atl and when I can travel I am usually there (or at least passing through to somewhere else).

When I am there, I stay right downtown on Piedmont Ave, so most of the places I am familiar with are going to be in metro Atl.

It has been quite a while since I actually lived there, so my memory of the 'burbs is pretty fuzzy.

P.S. Questions404: I LOVE Dugans. Random story...last time I went was about a year ago. I was with some late 20ish, early 30ish people. There is a huge sign that says OVER 21 ONLY or something. So we got up there and they carded everyone in our party. So we get into the place and see the rapper Lil Zane sitting at the bar, drinking! Now I think that boy is like 17-18. We were like hmph! But they make a great Long Island, so I got over it, lol.

ETA: Depending on dates, I would *likely* be down for an Atl get together. However, I am moving from the south very soon and I have a job pending. It would probably be fun though!

This Is It in Cobb is not as good as the others.

Mary Mac's is the bomb though!

I'm all for a get-together.
