Well we are already seeing the economic benefits of being an Olympic city. The loonie is now almost at $.75 US and Intrawest (the company that pretty owns Whistler and Blackcomb and is a Canadian company) brought in $2 million within minutes of the bid being annouced and their stock shot up $.50

. My only concern about the Olympics will be real estate since prices in Vanc and Whistler have always been insanely high and I will be looking to buy in the next few years... But my boyfriend's dad whistler condo should be worth quite a mint now.
It still hasn't quite sunk in yet, even though I've watched Jaques Rogge's anouncement so many times today on various news stations, but I have been looking at the city today thinking wow, we are now an Olympic city and how amazing are these olympics going to be.
I just drove past the Thunder Bird winter centre at UBC and started to envision the new arena that will be built in its place and all the wonderful new infrastructures Vanc and Whistler are going to see. Wow.
The provincial and federal government are throwing us a party this saturday to celebrate our win. You know you live in a cool country when your Prime Minister (or equivalent thereof) wants to throw you a party. Thanks Jean and Gordo!
Ok time to shut up and go watch some more news
