direct deposit

so i started a new job recently and my first paycheck came today. i applied for direct deposit so i wouldn't have to worry about driving by an ATM on a Friday.

Well my manager came by and started passing out all the checks for the employees. I didn't anything. Obviously i didn't want a check, more like a paystub or some reasurance that Yes, money went into your account today and taxes took this amount out. I was able to find out what my check was worth online... BUT what if there was some computer glitch and the bank somehow doesn't get the deposit? What proof could you give them that you were supposed to get paid?

Does this sound odd to anyone else?

Should there be a glitch with direct deposit, talk to HR/payroll first.

You should receive a paystub like everyone else, with the check stating 'NON NEGOTIABLE' on the face.

Yes, this sounds very odd to me. I have direct deposit at my current job, and I receive a stub stating the amount of my check and how much taxes were taken out. I would contact someone from your HR department about this matter. There has got to be a way for you to atleast get a copy of what's entering your account.

Good luck!

I agree with the above statements. You should have received a stub. Contact HR/Payroll and see what's up. Make sure that they have processed your information. Make sure that they have your direct deposit going to the right account. You've worked for your money. Make sure you get it.

Some companies mail the pay stubs to the employees. Like others have said, check with your HR Department.

with both of my jobs that i have had direct deposit, my first pay check was not deposited into my account. in either case, you should have at least gotten a pay check. when did you start? perhaps you don't get a check this pay period. sometimes pays are retroactive (ie for the 2 previous weeks). definately check with someone! when i was a supervisor, i always let our new staff know that they wouldn't be getting a check so they didn't feel weird when everyone else got one!

my job you do not get a stub, you have to go online for it,

I know its weird, but you have no choice. You have to have direct deposit. If you do not give our the right information you will have a bank accunt set up for you until you do! This way the company saves money. Yeah I know its stupid, but they have being doing it for about a year now! and This is a multi million dollar international company. and there are thousands of employess across the nation! Its so dumb for any one without a bank account

My dad works for Erie Insurance and a while ago they switched completely over to direct deposit and he had no choice. He was pretty ticked off because he's one of those people that likes to see it in their hands before he puts it in the bank

Oh, no, they couldn't do that. It would have been too easy. Besides, it would have made sense...

Yes. My current company does direct depoit and I do get a slip that shows how much was direct deposited into my bank a/c.
(It does not look like a cheque, though I worked for another company where it DID look like a cheque but said NON NEGOTIABLE).

Thumbs down

Sorry,l am old school!!! Owning a Business, I want to deposit the previous days money, I want to get a slip immediately! Same for Direct deposit, EFT out to companies! You will be locked into that bank as it is a bitch to get a new account and to have the EFT out (payment) switched over!

I like to see the result ASAP!!! There are slip ups on timeing that will hold a EFT with your deposit and it can and does screww up you payouts then you oay a penalty!!

Try a debit card if they are late getting it transfered!!! OOOPS, no money in account!

I LOVE DIRECT DEPOSIT! I'm too busy to get to the bank in time to ever deposit something. I always get my check on Wednesday and it is deposited through Direct Deposit on the following day...but like you said it's a reassurance to know what you've GOT in the bank.

I'm surprised they mail it out. Most places I've ever worked with DD don't mail it out but hand it out with a void stamp on the actual check.

I love direct deposit it's nice to get money at 12am on friday, since I usually work on payday and don't get off until long after the bank closes. The first paycheck I got was not eft and I just deposited it in an atm since I didn't get off until 9pm and the bank was obviously closed. That ended up being a big mistake since my bank makes you wait three buisness days to cash atm deposits, It let me get $100.00 out and then I had to wait until wednesday to get the rest. NEVER AGAIN!!!
