Subject: Miss Blake birthday memo 2004
January 5, 2004
To: Alpha Delta Pi Sisters
From: Kathryn P. Goddard, International President
Dear sisters:
This week, January 6, 2004, Maxine Blake, Grand President Emeritus, will celebrate her 100th birthday. Cards or notes may be sent to her at:
Maxine Blake
2204 Sherwood Ave.
Bakersfield, CA 93304
The contributions Miss Blake made to Alpha Delta Pi and the entire fraternity community are too numerous to mention. This fact was reinforced over and over again last fall at the National Panhellenic Conference Meeting. Many of the time-honored policies and practices of NPC were originated and promoted by Miss Blake.
Alpha Delta Pi could have easily used the phrase "First, Finest, Forever" during the 29 years Miss Blake led us as Grand President. Most significant among her accomplishments was her leadership in the purchase of our Memorial Headquarters in Atlanta. Her foresight in securing a permanent location for our Executive Office was another first in the sorority world.
It has come to my attention that several sisters are making contributions to the Capital Campaign in honor of Miss Blake as she celebrates this milestone birthday. What a wonderful way to honor her and pay tribute to her leadership. If this is something you would like to do, please send your contribution to Executive Office and specify that it is in honor of Maxine Blake. She will be notified of your donation in her honor.
Alpha Delta Pi is indeed fortunate to have many leaders who have left their "mark" on our sisterhood. These leaders have set an example for all of us to follow in upholding the high standards of our sisterhood. Our stewardship of these high standards and values is extremely important. As 2004 begins, I hope that we can renew our vows to sisterhood and continue the legacy left for us by former leaders.
