Run To The Hills
White man came across the sea
Brought us pain and misery
Killed our tribes killed our creed
Took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack
Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives
Soldier blue on the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives...

edited to add- Arya...DID YOU WRITE THAT??? It inspired me so that this old song jumped to mind. I thought we were going to focus on one group of people who are so often ignored, but really paid a high price. I have so much love for Indians and their bitter history at the hands of "progress".
Indian Woman
Dan Hill
She looks up at the ceiling it's no different from the floor.
And he says to her "Indian woman makes no difference to me. Someone had to suffer for our progress can't you see."
She's seen too much to care anymore.
She just stares into nothing till she can stare no more.
And he says, "Indian woman there's no color in your eyes. If you can't help yourself how can I dare to try."
We cut off her hands and then we anger cause she bleeds!
We say survival of the fittest and she's too tired to disagree.
We cut off her arms and we command her to climb! Different people, different cultures different time.
Quebec's getting restless and the rest of the country does not know why.
Indian Woman registers no surprise
There are no politics when you're struggling to survive.
This country keeps on changing leaving her so far behind.
She feels just like a stranger in another space and time.
It cuts right thru her but she's seen to much to cry.
We cut off her hands and we anger cause she bleeds!
We say survival of the fittest, she's too tired to disagree.
We cut off her arms and then we command her to climb! Different people different cultures different time. Different people different culture,...don't resign.

I visited the Little Bighorn Battlefield last summer and was moved by the coverage of the opening of the Indian memorial there this week. Also, the History Channel documentary on the Custer battle which was on last night.

Maiden got loads of deep lyrics that many should actually listen to. Of course many think they're devil worshiping heavy metal bands.

AND-KISS was Kids in Support of Satin
Pat Benatar's "Hell is for Children" SUPPORTED child abuse
Jesus Christ Superstar was anti Christianity
and of course-Paul is Dead...
Delt Alum-I've never had the privilege to see the Little Bighorn Battlefield. It seems like so much is now a part of history that the settlers and the western migration are little more than footnotes.
I hate to see that happen. If it weren't for some of the smaller towns and historical preservation societies it could just fade away. Maybe if they put up enough amusement parks and McDonalds more people will take an interest...
THANK GOODNESS FOR AMERICAN HISTORY BUFFS!
I've been listening to Dan Hill all morning! (3 albums) ARYA-it's all thanks to you!

That's why Paul was wearing white on the Abbey Road album, you know...you may now roll your eyes again.
As for Little Bighorn, as trite as it sounds, I was moved by the experience. It wasn't at all what I expected. I also didn't realize that there was a national cemetery there -- even though Custer and most of the other remains have been moved to Arlington or other places, there are hundreds of graves of vets of other wars.
The visit (and the documentary) did tend to confirm what history now pretty much reveals -- that Custer was remarkably arrogant and really fouled up big time.
As an aside, the Affirmative Action thread and this one finally got me off the dime, and even though I'm recognized by employers as Native American, I've written to the Cherokee Nation to attempt to extablish formal tribal recognition. We'll see what happens.
