NEOs: The transition from GC SF to GC Soror

NEO Sorors (those who were formerly SFs of GC; yet have RECENTLY become Alpha Kappa Alpha women), would you care to share with those SFs out there in cyberland how your perspective has changed (if it has) with regards to ideals/beliefs/etc. since you are now on the other side of the fence.

I'm sure many would like to know *what it's like*.

Remember, even as a MEMBER, discretion is KEY!

Ideals/beliefs as far as attaining membership, or just in general? Prolly no need to even ask, but I thought I would...

Guess I will speak up...

As a neo (today is my 3 month AKAversary), I would like to share the following.

My perspective about Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has not changed in re: to the ideals and beliefs of the organization. Much of what I "thought" about the sorority before I became a member was confirmed once I was initiated and began to work in my chapter. I believe firmly in the ideals that are entwined in our great history. But I also knew (and respected) the "work" as well. Seeing the business up close was something I could not even imagine before becoming a member. Now that I am a member, my perception has not changed.

I will say that there are some aspects of the "sisterhood" that I had perceived differently before I became a member. But I was warned about them beforehand and seeing certain things unfold before me added further "proof". I have always lived by this mantra (even before becoming a member)-- people are people and women are women. As long as I stick to that, I will continue to be an active, hard-working, and loyal soror. In that regard, my view from the outside was definitely not the same as my view on the inside.

I love Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and all she represents. Her goals and programming touch at the heart of the issues that are of most concern to our communities. I love my sisterhood. I have had the opportunuity to meet kind, loving, wonderful, accomplished women from all walks of life whom I now can call MY sorors!! I can now look in the eyes of my life long friends and share an even deeper, more special bond with them-- the bond of being an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman.

Not without ups and downs, as with anything in life, in the end Alpha Kappa Alpha is all that I expected it to be and more.

Post I want to reply

My former screen name as a sisterfriend was Ania on MG.

I have on thing to say to all of my sorors,

I UNDERSTAND WHY SORORS ACT THE WAY THEY DO!!

People can be so annoying/rude/etc. My sorors and I work so hard in community service and keeping our image clean but people are a mess!! When I am on other websites and I see people trying to disrespect us, I understand why sorors act the way they do. I hate to put it so bluntly but, people are haters of our beautiful organization!!! So looking from a member's perspective is quite different.

Yes, it has been a while since I was a sisterfriend but I just had to share that with everyone.
