Tv Shows!
What tv shows best depicted the greek life? Personally I think 90210 did a great job with Kelly and Donna rushing, it showed accuracy.
P.S. What famous person belonged to your greek chapter?
P.S.S. My closet friend is a Sigma Kappa and she is the greatest!!!

actually, all the girls, Kelly, Donna, Brenda, and Andrea all rushed. They got as far as pref I think, but Andrea was all butt hurt because the pres of the house they really liked was Jewish but was "denying" it for her sorority. So they dropped out. God, I loved that show.

I remember Saved by the Bell the College years when the "gang" rushed. The girls all wanted to be in this one prestigous (spelling much?) house except for leslie who didn't rush. In the end the prissy house only wanted leslie because her parents were rich blah blah, and kelly and Alex were bummed because the girls all game in with candles and such and they thought it was for them. Then two girls came running in and gave them bids to some other house (kappa pi or something made up) and kelly and Alex were all: "what's kappa pi?, who cares we're kappa pi's!!!!!" then they jumped up and down. VERY accurate , I know I would be ecstatic to join a house I'd never heard of with girls I'd never seen or met before. oh well, the never talked about it again.
I also remember on "A Different World" when all the girls were in the sorority and they were little frogs and had to hop around in public and address Whitley as something something sister "so glorious to behold" and wave their hands in front of their faces. The memory is kind of vague though, that show was on when I was pretty young.

I remember one of the Jr. High Saved By the Bell's when Zach pledged "Rigmas" (get it, Rigmas, Sigmas....nevermind, it's really not that funny, although they must have though so!)...hmmm...a Jr. high fraternity...

Well everyone else has already mentioned shows that I thought of, so I'll skip ahead to our famous alum.
Kate Capshaw (Actress, married to Steven Speilberg) University of Missouri
Danica McKeller (Winnie from the Wonder Years) UCLA
Deana Carter (Country Singer) University of Washington
Judy Woodruff (CNN anchor) Duke University
Jean Smart (Actress, Designing Women) University of Washington
Monica Polumbo (Miss North Carolina 2001?, she was also on the show All American Girl and when Kathie Lee left Regis, before Kelly was named cohost, Monica was one of the guest cohosts) East Carolina University
We also have a Miss Texas 1998, Miss Kentucky 1998 and Miss Arkansas 1998.
We also have a Miss America 1953
Those are just a few.

I don’t think these portrayed greek life accurately but I do remember in Step-by-step Karen,(I think that’s her name, the brundette) wanted to be in a sorority and they wanted the other one(the blonde one) that if she became a member that they’d let the brunette in and the blonde one didn’t want to be a member. Also the reason they wanted the blonde one was because her GPA would raise theirs.
Also I do remember the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air also had something like that where Will and Carl both went through. I think they got bids or something because all I remember was they wanted Will but not Carl and Will wouldn’t join if Carl didn’t or something like that. But I do remember them hazing Carl and Will stood up to them so they both didn’t join.
Both were very touching…

And the Zach's "big brothers" were both named Trevor, and they said stuff like "Rigmas together forever, Trevor."
The quality of writing on that show is so bad, I am continuously wondering how it became such a hit.

It was Phi Beta Gamma...I remember watching it with my Independent roomie and she was like "It's Gamma Phi Beta!" but it was more likely to be a copy of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. from what I could tell...one of their colors were blue (the other was black) and they stepped. Judge Banks was also all excited because one of the other judges was a "Gamma." Will dropped out because they were hazing both of them, but they hazed Carleton harder and weren't planning on letting him cross. (I watch way too much TV, I know.)
There was also a Greek episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun...Tommy was pledging and called home to complain about being hazed, so Sally went to his school to yell at the pledgemaster, but ended up being the assistant pledgemaster and hazing them even more...

Garry Marshall--TV Producer, Actor, Director of the TV shows-Happy Days, and Laverne&Shirley
was a initiated member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity so during the middle of the Happy Days tv run when The Fonz, Richie, Potsie, and Ralph Malph went to college they all became ATO's
so sometimes during episodes us initiated members of ATO see some "special" ATO messages. Also, Gary Marshall is also a producer for the new show "Monk" and acts on an episode were Monk is flying on a plane and thinks some guy killed his wife and is trying to flee the country. Gary is the guy sitting next to Monk on the plane, and is wearing his ATO badge if you look real close.
Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli--Happy Days character based on brother Garry Marshall. Portrayed by Henry Winkler
Richard "Richie" Cunningham--Happy Days character-ATO on show. Portrayed by Ron Howard
Ralph Malph--Happy Days character-ATO on show. Portrayed by Donny Most
Warren "Potsie" Webber--Happy Days character-ATO on show. Portrayed by Anson Williams

The only show I remember that depicted Greek Life well was A Different World, and I think that's because it was never a major part of the program.

i remember from Fresh Prince, when will's girlfriend lisa wanted to join a sorority. one of her pledge tasks was to lure will into a cabin and tie him by his feet hanging from the ceiling.

This should be a part of every sororities' pledge programs.
I don't remember any TV shows having GLO stuff on them other than the Fresh Prince.

There was an Episode of Sabrina where sabrina went undercover to report on rushing and found "hazing" in a sorority on campus who was making pledges do the upperclassman's homework. She got them to stop the practice... but other than that it really depicted sorority girls well.. when Sabrina went in as a reporter she was asking all kinds of "stupid" questions and making comments based on what she though they wanted to hear like "we can all do our hair" and comments about her dad's money.. but the sisters looked at her like she was crazy and she found out one of them had a scholarship and that they did philanthropies... so I think it did a pretty good job.
