Lightbulb Save Your Money!!

if the play "will the real man please stand up" starring (and i use that term loosely) malik yoba and michelle williams of destiny's child, is coming to your town, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY GOING!!!!!

that was the worst mess i ever sat through. last night was the opening night and since one of my line sisters is in radio, she got us complimentary tickets. and i know i didn't pay, but i want money back!!! i DEMAND "bad play reparations!!"

last night was opening night. now peep this: the tickets said the play would be starting at 7:00 and printed on the ticket was "NO LATE SEATING."

HOW COME they didn't let us in the theatre until 7:45
HOW COME the play didn't start until 8:30

the play also stars phil perry, sean levert and christopher williams (who i wanted to see after the play to let him know he aint foolin nobody--that aint muscle bruh!). i think all these people thought this was their opportunity to make their re-entrance into the biz because they all sang the extended versions of songs. when i tell you that phil perry sang for about 10 minutes straight, i aint lying.

and the script, OMG!!!! i don't think they had one. i can imagine the play writers and directors conversation with the "actors" to go a little something like this:

Actor: "So, what are the lines for this scene?"
Writer/Director: "Um, we really don't have one. But, I want you all to talk about relationships."
Actor: "What shall we say?"
Writer/Director: "Just wing it. It's black folks, they will laugh at anything! Just make sure you wave your hands in the air a lot, Okay?"
Actor: "Okay, I'll TRY my best to fool those people into believing this is a play and not a concert."

from the title of the play, i was expecting the cast to look at some common issues that confront the african-american home/relationship. it didn't take long for me to figure out that the title was used to bait us. what we got instead was a very unconnected "play" that didn't make a bit of sense.

when the play was over, i couldn't contain myself. i had to let out a couple of curse words! i was so !!!

by the by, kelly rowland and solange were there to support michelle. kelly looks better in person.

Girl, you have me cracking up at the "script meeting" script! I have been hearing a buzz about this play for a while, yet it has never come to town. I haven't really heard anything about it, until now. The only that that I have heard is the cast. That's what made me want to see it. I was like, "Malik Yoba? When do tickets go on sale?" Now, I don't know. You gave a pretty convincing explanation. Were they peddling DVDs or VHS tapes at the door? Maybe I can check that out....

I'm still laughing!

You make me wanna see it just to see how bad it was! I love to get a good laugh in. I hope Michelle's undeveloped voice tail wasn't singing! Is it just me or does this girl sound like a mouse?! She needs to continue singing solo...SO LOW I can't hear her! HOLLA!

Thanks for the laugh MeezDiscrete

I hate to say this, but I boycotted traveling gospel stage plays featuring washed 80s/early 90s singers two years ago and I haven't looked back. I will have to be paid a hefty sum to see one again. All of the overacting, oversinging, and overdressing is too much for me. I don't not need to spend two hours of my life that I can never have back so that Cheryl "Pepsi" Riley can tell how my arms are too short to box with God, how her mama drank all the Kool Aid, how she went to the beauty shop and laundromat, and how a good man is hard to find. I know, I know, I know.

Ditto Ditto!! Most of it is just a modern day chitlin' circuit IMO. The last of these plays that I attended was something (can't even remember the name) with Greg Mathis and Fred Hammond. I only went because I luuuuuvvvvvv me some Fred Hammond. They could have kept the tired acting and just given me more of Fred's singing!

I'm LMAO at the meeting too!! But thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure that Hubby and I will not waste our money at that play! Usually that's the kind of stuff that comes to Saginaw and I know that everybody and their grandmomma will run to go see it.

I think you are talking about "Been There, Done That" and if so, that is the play that inspired my boycott. It was all around horrible. I love Fred Hammond, but I'll stick to his CDs.
