internSHIT!
I am so pissed!!!
So I have been on 2 interviews for an internship in the promotions department at a radio station in San Diego, as well as communicating with the promotions department at the local FOX TV station. Both look like really good programs, and I honestly think that I have a really good shot at landing one of them, if not both.
The only problem is that they both require that I be a part of the COMM 490B class at my school. This is the class that gives you credit for an internship. the only problem with this is that it is not offered in the summer, but you can apply to it and they will make special arrangements for you.
So I am like cool...WRONG! I have been emailing the woman in-charge of the COMM 490B program, and she is such a bitch! She is trying to not let me into it because I am still a pre-major. It's all bullshit! I have every requirement completed for this but being officially declared as a Communication major. I would take care of this, but I have to pass the upper division writing test, which I am taking on June 7th.
I just emailed her back begging her to let me come into her office hours this week to talk about it. Anyway, I am just stressed, frustrated, and pissed off...

Could you convince the two companies to let you still work there without getting the credit? You'd still get the experience and maybe it could carry over and you could still get credit somehow.
Try to get your major declared asap. I needed to have my minor declared before I could take some classes, and I went to the department, and it took them two seconds to have my minor declared. All they usually have to do is type it into a computer.
Let me know how things go. Good luck!

How were you able to take the JMC classes if you were only a pre-major? At my school (which has a crappy JMC program) you could only take inro to jmc when you were a premajor and then file for it as a major and you'd be notified in a letter if you got in. Also, you can't go on an internship until you have finished certain classes and you have to have permission from your advisor.
So my question to you is (mind you I'm not trying to be bitcy) why did you wait to declare JMC as a major if you were taking the classes-- I saw you had to take a writing class, but couldn't you have taken it before this June 7th date? and why didn't you talk to your advisor in regards to getting an internship?
Good luck it does sound like a great opportunity.

Dude you're in Cali, land of internships.
They grow on trees there or something.
I know 2 people this summer and one last year that left from Oklahoma to Cali for internships over the summer. 2 were at E! -- I think they did video editing.. The other I have no idea what she's doing up there. All broadcasting majors.
You'll find something eventually.
Good luck.

Congratulations - sounds like a great internship, whether or not you get the credit for it.

Congrats on your internship! Don't stress too much about the credit. You'll either get it or you won't. I had MANY positions I held without getting internship credit. It sucks that it happens that way, but try to think long-term. The credit is far less important that the boost to your resume!
Enjoy your summer at FOX. Learn all that you can!
