Question Legacy Question

For those of you with children,
(or those who plan on having children)
who are now legacies,
would you be inclined to
suggest that they attend, or
not attend, a certain school
based on whether or not your
GLO has a chapter there?

I know that it is silly. But I can see me doing that. I really hope we have recolonized at UTexas or Texas A&M by then. (I have got 13 years to work on it).

Seriously I would suggest, but I would not be upset if she went elsewhere.
Maybe an Alpha Phi or Gamma Phi Beta would be okay. Go Syracuse Triad!

Deep inside, I wanted to nudge ASLFRose towards Auburn or UGa because of Pi Phi but when her current school offered her a "full ride plus", we knew she really needed to go there. She's been extremely happy but oh, it was so hard at first.

* I still believe that one of our 9 girls will pledge Pi Phi. I know it! God wouldn't not let me have one!

I don't want kids, but I am insistent that my girl cousin become a Gamma Phi Beta, and my boy cousin become a SigEp.

I can totally see myself doing that. In fact I probably will do something like that when I have kids. It won't make a difference if there's no Beta Chapter there (maybe my son will be up for colonizing???), but if there is my son better choose wisely.

I also know that if for some reason my little brother decides to go to KU, that I won't let him become a Beta there. No offense to any KU people, but I just know enough about the chapter to know that it wouldn't be a good fit for my little brother.

I would almost say not to, just because then they wouldn't have that maybe-conflict of either not liking the chapter or vice versa. One of my sisters went through that (her mom was a Tri Sig legacy) and I know it was hard for her - I think that she pushed down a lot of wanting us in the first place cause of her mom, so she suicided them and didn't get a bid. Of course it all worked out in the end and her mom loved us, but I'm sure she felt bad that her daughter had to go through it at all.

I think I would want them to definitely go to a school that had Greeks, period - if it was between a school that had them and one that didn't I would probably definitely push them towards the former.

I'd raise my kids to understand the meaning Phi Mu has had for me, and the meaning greek life in general can have for its members.

Other than that..... what else can you really do? You push, they back away.....

how glad am I that I don't have kids yet? I'd have NO idea how to handle it! JAM, thank goodness we have women like you out there....

KIDS ...ahh such a scary thought!!!!!
But nonetheless, I know that when my kids (freaks me out just thinking about that!) go to college that I will want them to join a GLO because I think that my sisters have played and will always play so many important roles in my life. However, I also believe that every single house can be different at a school, and different twenty to thirty years later as well. And since a house's dynamic depends alot on the girls/guys in the house at that time at that place, I would want him or her to join the house that fits them the best. If it's my house of course I'll be happy, but what really matters to me is that he or she is happy and gets the most out of college as possible

I agree with many of these statements but do yall think it would be hard to see your daughter pledge another group if the group you belong to has a great chapter at that school? I can't help but think it would be hard on me. I don't have kids yet but I believe that I would want them to be happy no matter what that meant. I just plan on if I have a daughter to raise her around DGs. Singing DG songs in the womb to her. Is that bad???!!! LOL

Mine know whooollllle bunch of Pi Phi songs but the big reason that I haven't pushed my sorority to the max is *mutual selection*. We know so many fabulous girls who go off to college, especially UGa, and their mother's sororities cut them almost right off. These were girls with the best grades, activities, and reputations.

I hope I never know the pain of my group doing that.

Nah, its not bad. I'm sigining Tri Delta songs to the little girl I babysit- and shes not even my daughter. I wonder if years from now she'll have a subconscious deisre to join Tri Delta...

Since Mr. Mox & I's child is sure to be brilliant, good-looking, and well-mannered, Cornell's Kappa Delta chapter seems like a wonderful place for my future little darling to say the vows her mother took way back when.

I would love my my daughter to be a Kappa Delta, & my son to be a Kappa Alpha. However, any GLO he or she choose to join will be embraced by me. (Mr. Mox, maybe a different story! LOL)

My younger cousin, a senior this year, was looking to transfer on in her college career. Gawd, I cannot tell you how hard I pushed for her to come to BC and be my KD little! She ended up staying put though.

I would want my hypothetical future children to attend the school that suits their academic and extracurricular needs the best - whether they have AEPhi or not, whether they even have a greek system or not. If they do, well, so much the better.

One of my sisters, whose aunt is an AEPhi, told me that her aunt would only let her daughters apply to colleges with AEPhi chapters. None of them actually went AEPhi, though.

I hate to say this, but some of our "great" chapters are chapters I don't think I would fit in with. If for whatever reason (immaculate conception?) I ended up with a daughter, I would rather see her pledge another group who's chapter there are liked. I think we all know there are certain chapters of our GLO we don't love as much as others...and certain chapters of other GLOs that we love.

We are in 100% agreement here! I also think there are many definitions of what I would consider to be GREAT chapters! The most important for me is the quality of the sisterhood! (ie that its good!)
