sweetheart/mothers pins

I just have a few quick questions. I will be rushing this fall and my boyfriend is pledging. I have been looking online at some of the badges and things, and I was wondering....how exactly do sweetheart and mothers pins work? Do you have to be engaged to give a sweetheart pin? Would you wear your sorority pin and sweetheart pin at the same time? Do sororoties have some kind of parallel thing to give their boyfriends? Do the mothers pins go to any mother? Or just ones of legaices? I'm just curious about all this, I would love to get a sweetheart's pin, and my mom would adore a mother's pin Thanks! - Amanda
