La Bamba

Ok so I saw in that song thread that someone mentioned American Pie, which part of it has to do wtih Richie Valens.

I think La Bamba is one of the best movies ever made! My favorite part and the most sad part is when his brother Bob is on a grassy hill and screams out "Richie". I bawl my eyes out. That movie really gave us a look at how much of an impact singers back in the day had on people. Nowadays when someone famous dies it's like "oh. ok" unless you're a huge fan. Back then everyone mourned.

I think the part of the song that mentions Richie is when it talks about the day the music died...how sad everyone was to hear about the death...I don't remember the exact lyrics.

Richie was in that plane that crashed carrying Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper.

"The day the music died" - the day Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper died.

Here is what the song is all about...
http://www.whrc-wi.org/americanpie.htm

ETO: Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane to JP Richardson (Big Bopper). When Buddy Holly learned that Jennings wasn't going to fly, he said, "Well, I hope your old bus freezes up." Jennings responded, "Well, I hope your plane crashes." This friendly banter of friends would haunt Jennings for years.

I loved that movie! 1987!!!

I loved that movie "La Bamba". It was awesome. I also agree that Esai Morales (who played the bada$$ brother Bob) was terrific in it, as well.
