Yeah, I did. Once again, MTV made me want to hide the fact that I'm Greek. Heh

When people go on TV on something like this and advertise their sorority/fraternity and appear in a not so great light, do their National/International offices reprimand them?

I THINK Phi Mu has strict rules on our letters being presented on television or other types of media. A girl who does that would most likely be reprimanded.

I believe that they actually do have that ability. I was talking last week with an individual who serves on the national board of her women's fraternity and they were discussing this issue recently with the advent of "reality" tv.
They were concerned with an alumnae's actions on a reality tv program who happened to be wearing (or wore) letters during the taping, and are currently considering revocation or sanctions of some type to this individual because of her behavior and bad representation of the group.

Danielle,
I know that DG makes it pretty clear that they don't want us going on certain TV programs, and they specify which ones on the National Website:
"April 1, 2003
It has come to the attention of Delta Gamma Executive Offices that Zilo Networks is in the process of contacting sorority chapters across the country to hold promotional viewing parties for Fox's program American Idol and AT&T Wireless.
Be advised that no collegiate chapter of Delta Gamma Fraternity should participate in this promotional request from Zilo Networks. Delta Gamma and all other National Panhellenic Conference groups are united in their opposition to this appeal. If you are contacted by the entertainment and marketing company, please notify the staff Director of Public Relations Whitney Scully at whitney@deltagamma.org immediately.
http://www.deltagamma.org/zilo.html"
Also:
They want us to steer clear of "Sorority Life" too.
http://www.deltagamma.org/mtv_sorority_life.html
The Daily Mississippian also had an article about DG at Ole Miss being chosen to be on a sorority edition of MTV's Cribs, but I am not sure whether EO consented to it or not (I am thinking not....)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Don't worry, we do have pretty strict rules about this. That pisses me off.
Sorry, but how hard is it to find something to wear that doesn't have your letters on it? Or how hard is it to keep your mouth shut?
Better yet, how hard is it to keep your legs closed, considering you really shouldn't be doing that stuff on tv anyway???!!

I know Kappa is strict about that.
Our recent newsletter reminded us to not even wear our letters during spring break.

I betcha it was Zeta and they were referring to when that ZETA swimsuit model stripped on a Survivor challenge and they had to have the fuzzy images across her upper and lower you-know-wheres!
This Zeta actually says in her Survivor bio that she brought her Zeta crown as her luxury item (oh that is useful!) and she has worn several Zeta items of clothing on the show thus far -- when she chose to wear clothing that is
I remember two episodes ago on Amazing Race there was a brother and sister team from Texas and the sister wore her Kappa tee shirt several times -- she was not that bad actually so I guess it was OK...

I was actually wondering about that. Like i've said in a couple other threads, I went to high school with that girl, and she goes to Pitt. She was a ZTA at Duquesne, but she transferred up the street (literally) here to Pitt, which has no ZTA chapter, so she's not an active undergrad. I don't know what action they can take against her.
She definately has done a lot of getting naked and saying things that I wouldn't be kosher with. Of course it could wind up being GOOD PR for Zeta b/c she has very good odds of winning.
I think a problem is generally these girls are still undergrad or very recently out and don't understand the bigger world of their sorority and the greek system outside of their little bubble. Yes, I fall in that age group, but I feel that I know a lot more than the average greek in my position thanks to GC and my alumnae involvement.

naaaaah, I don't think Jenna getting naked alot is good PR for Zeta -- I wonder what older Zetas like nhfulmer think?
and second naaaaaaaaaah, Jenna is not going to win! I am voting for Christy or Butch!
There was a PiPhi on this installmant of Survivor too -- Shawna or something like that -- she's gone already -- too whiney (another bad impression IMHO)

So does Alpha Delta Pi. In fact, if I remember correctly, one cannot legally use the name Alpha Delta Pi in any media without permission from EO. Must be the same concept of a lady appearing in print only upon birth, marriage, and death!
