Cool Squirrel zaps electricity

From the Coweta Times-Herald..

Many Newnan residents getting ready for work or morning errands and area businesses starting their day were delayed by a 50-minute power outage Monday -- all due to a squirrel
(Not me of course

About 3,750 Newnan Utilities customer lost power.

A squirrel on a power pole at Sunset Lane and West Washington Street caused a chain of events which led to the power outage...

At about 8:30 a.m., the gray squirrel shorted the line..The brakers at the substation should have tripped; but they did not, because the station had been struck by lightning in the storm two and a half weeks earlier and the utilitiy was not aware of it
(((so the squirrel was performing a public service!

...

The squirrel did not survive the incident ((she entered Chapter Grand)).

Oh. Let us now bow our heads in silence for our furry little friend. She made the ultimate sacrifice so that the town could have electricity.

Godspeed, little squirrel. Godspeed.

*crash*

OK, I have to tell you this story now because this thread reminded me of it.

We had a squirrel that roamed around our house and often sat on our porch, and due to his "manliness" we nicknamed him Mr. Fuzzynut. Nobody knows what happened, but I found him against the side of the house by our dumpster, and he was no longer alive. One of our sisters who was over cleaning the yard was distraught and her boyfriend decided to tease her by saying "Why don't you pour a 40 for your dead homie?" Cassie took him seriously and as Jim (one of our Gammie Guys) was burying him, she poured the 40 on him. She looked traumatized when she found out that wasn't actually what thugs do, and she walked around for a week grieving for Mr. FN.
