"Cupid"

Is anyone watching this?

kinda like an "American Lover" or something like that. With the crazy auditioning process and everything. .

The Idea:
-america picks the perfect guy for this girl
-she comes with a million dollar dowry
-he gets the money if he proposes, they get married and they STAY MARRIED for atleast a year...

Any thoughts?

This show is off the chain. Laura (the blonde girl) is off the chain.

Some of the guys are like There were some interesting folks in Miami.

If Cupid is going to come on Wednesdays from now on, I'm going to be hooked

I missed the first few minutes of it, but what is Simon's role? What does he do....just give commentary?

I think it would be better if Simon were the fourth vote. I can only imagine how he and Laura would play off each other!

I missed the show but it just sounds desperate and stupid. I mean what kind of person would leave the decision of who they're going to marry up to their best friends and risk making a mistake and rushing into things and possibly get divorced later. And furthermore, risk the chance that the man is in it ONLY for the money and they stay together for a year and he divorces her after the year mark is up? It just doesn't sit right with me.

I took this woman's studies class and our first chapter was about women's rights in foreign countries and dowries. In some countries the families are so poor that the dowry is like a gift to the groom's family for 'taking the bride off her family's hands' (especially since women are not valued as much and an unmarried woman would be a burdon). Furthermore the FAMILY usually gets the money for their businesses, not the newlywed couple. If a woman dishonors the family's wishes and does something they deem as an embarassement to their family name the brothers (often) can go ahead and kill her (it's called honor killing). They do this often in public and don't suffer any reprocutions from it.

Basically (sorry for the tangent) this sort of show reminds me of the things I learned (even though our society isn't as bad as what I described). It's giving the impression that women have a monitary value and to be wed off they have to be worth $$$$ something. The only difference here is that she (or her friends) get to choose instead of someone forcing her to marry someone. But still, the man could simply marry (as I said above) for the money and divorce her...because essentially she's not winning anything (unless they have a prenup with a clause about the winning).

Anyone notice the pattern of all the guys who are traders on the show? She picked 3 traders. The guy with the tatoo of his mother was a little freaky. She seemed to pick the guys who brought their moms with them except for the weirdo whose mom Ryan Seacrest said looked young. The British guy was so cute!

That's not exactly the way the show works. Lisa and her two friends interviewed all the guys and they were incredibly choosy. They only picked like seven guys total.

Yes, many of the guys who got shot down deserved it, but I thought they were really mean to some people. For instance, the guy who had a daughter who lived in Colorado [or somewhere far] with her mother. He talked about how he went out every three months to see her and they jumped down his throat and called him a bad father because he wasn't with her all the time. HELLO! At least he's trying to be a dad...he's making an effort.

I'm really surprised they kept Paco.

Didn't you hear what she said. . .she was tired of meeting the same guys.

Personally, I'm rooting for Paco. He's cute despite the body art(now, you see why I don't like girls with tatoos).

Plus, it's not like Lisa was drop dead gorgeous. . .her blonde friend was way prettier to me.

Granted I didn't see the show but I went to the website. I understand that they interview the guys but when I was reading up on the show and heard my local radio station talking about it I was under the impression that it was like the man had 30 seconds or so to impress the three ladies.

And irreguardless of the whole "interview" process, the point I was making was that these reality shows are so sketchy because of the process and in this Cupid show how there is a dowry and the end result of the dowry includes having to been married for a year. Maybe I'm a skeptic, but I'd be leary of ANYONE's intentions on a) national television and b) where money and love are involved.

I'm still the only one watching the show

I'm really mad at Lisa. She left two of my faves behind. Omar and Corey. But that's ok, I'll break my rule about sloppy seconds (this time) Pluse Corey is an Air Force Man. Showed up at his audition in his uniform. Gotta love the Air Force. (One of my ex's is a former Captin so I have a thing for Air Force men)

I saw the show tonight for the first time. I think it's pretty cute. The shortest friend (the one with wicked blonde highlights) is really mean! It will be an interesting show, I think.
