Question unhappy with sdt

currently trying to get OUT....that's where I am. that's where a lot of us are. this organization is not strong enough and there is no motivation to stay. too much time and money spent with nothing in return. is anyone on any other campuses having this same problem? we were told we were not allowed to deactivate. we want OUT!!! has anyone else had problems deactivating? it feels like a cult. this is not what sorority is supposed to be all about. i am not a valued member of my organization and therefore i do not value my organization. is this common or is this just a problem with my chapter? please reply.

Im really sorry to hear that you are unhappy with sdt. But the only thing i can say is that the organization is only as strong as the members make it. If youre not happy the way things are, BE THE CHANGE you want to see! (yeah i think ghandi said that). My chapter has a lot of problems, but they are totally outweighed by the sisterhood we create. Yet, i understand that if you dont feel valued, then its time to go. Im sorry to hear im losing a sister

I'm really sorry to hear that. EVERY chapter of EVERY sorority has its problems. I really don't want to lose a sister, but it disturbs me that you're having problems deactivating. I am a strong believer that you should never leave an organization because of a few people...I know I would have missed a lot if I had done that. I'm so sorry that you're unhappy, and if you want to talk about it, PM me. I don't think I really understand the situation.

Love-N-SDT!

Don't be so quick to dive overboard out of the sinking ship, as it were. I for one lost my fraternity membership mainly because I stopped being in touch with most of the people (well, the fact that I wasn't attending the college for a while didn't help, either). Have you tried other options? It may be all you need is a few good socializing events with your fellow sisters; the SDT chapter at Emory University (DE chapter, I think) is really close, and one of the main reasons I think that is so is because they are constantly doing events that involve all the sisters. Perhaps a bit of initiative on your part can redeem the sisterhood in you and others of your sisters' eyes

But, above all, you should never feel like you're confined by a sisterhood, that's not what it's about. If you truly feel that way, I doubt there's anyone here who would object to your getting out of the situation. Sometimes speaking to your fellow sisters from other chapters or even total outsiders who are simply familiar with the organization vicariously can help. Send me a PM if you need an outside look at things

Hey!.. i know things seem tough at times.. we, as a new chapter DEFINATELY dealt with our share of strife.. Also, we colonized on a commuter campus with very little greek life, so everything that we got back we worked for....hard. The cool thing was, that in the beginning, it really felt like hard work, but as time went on, it began to feel like play. the more things you go to and organize, the more you like to goto.. by the end of the semester, i practically lived on campus. If not for an event, then just to hang out with my sisters between classes, and i loved it..there was no other place i wanted to be. Anyway, long story short..we came from nothing..no background, no traditions, nothing, to the flourishing orginazation we have today.. it's all what you put into it.. the more you put in, the more you get out of it. So i'm sorry you're leaving.. i hate to lose a sister due to weak bonds, but you gotta do what you gotta do. .. best of luck
P.S. as for the deactivation. .have you paid up on your dues.. they won't let you deactivate unless you are in the clear with your dues since you were active this semester.

This is my first posting and i just want to say how upsetting it is that the first thing i read is that we're losing a sister. i know what it feels like to have drama and problems w/in the sisterhood. being a founder of the new delta zeta chapter in camden, nj, we had PLENTY of problems. some you girls would not even think a sig delt was capable of bringing to her sisters but we hae worked through all of that and i love my sisters as much as i love my family. some of us are moving onto campus next semester together. it seriously makes my eyes tear sometimes when i see all my sisters together having a great time and i think that just a year ago i knew 2 other people on my commuter campus. it makes me sad that you dont feel this same way about your sisters. i too was almost to the point where i couldn't be active and then i started to really get to know my sisters and now i could never imagine not hanging out with them everyday. they mean the world to me....they even kept me in school!!!! how awesome is that. anyway....feel free to contact me if u need to talk.

love n sdt!!!!

Hello, hello dahlings! Let me just say that I too am very sad to hear that I'm losing a sister, but I just wanted to say that so far all of the posts have been really positive and supportive so maybe you should take that into consideration...the bond you make w/ other chapters is a really great experience and if nothing else a place to discuss what you're going through with others that understand where you're coming from...even if your ties are going to be severed w/ your chapter, you can always email me, and I'm sure the others feel the same!
