Talking First Service Project as a member

Spin off from the Habitat thread, what was your first service project as a member of your org?

My line participated in a Health Fair and had a table dedicated to Clinical Depression. We did it in 97 and 98. I learned a lot from that Health Fair and about Clinical Depression.

Actually the week right after we crossed, we went to this orphanage that is in the area, and donated time and supplies to the kids. The children range in age from 6 to 16, and 80% of them are black.

Also this Sunday the 18th we are particpating in the chapters annual AID/HIV walk-a-thon.

My line helped to build a play area for a school. We had to actually plant flowers, put down wood chips, saw, hammer and nail, measure etc. It was nice though. When it was finished the play area included swings, monkey bars, slides the whole nine. The children loved it.

We had a voter registration drive in the middle of the hood (well as much of a hood there is in hattiesburg, ms) burning up in the august heat in mississippi. But we had a very good turn out so it was worth it.

I have no idea what my first APO service project was when i crossed. It all just runs together.

For Alpha, my chapter runs a beautillion, and the day after we crossed, we all helped out with a workshop for the Beaux.

Our first project was getting ready for our school's Dance Marathon which was the following semster. My line spent that time during the summer fundraising for it.

The first project I was involved in was having Soror Rae Lewis Thornton come and do a HIV/AIDS forum. We had an afterparty that people could get into free if they came to the forum.

Our first project was the day after we crossed. It was Keep Akron Beautiful where we go around picking up trash around the Akron area.

I was already volunteering for Delta Academy and another program while I was prospective. So it was natural for me to go back to Delta Academy as my first event as a member.
